  • Re: root cellar/storage bin

I plan on using a plastic tote that measures approximately 24"x48". So, I'll have to dig a little less than 2ft. The directions for the wooden box say to leave a small portion of it above ground. The portion above ground is then heaped with more dirt along the edges. The dirt is slanted away from the box in order for water to drain away

  • root cellar/storage bin

I want to build a simple root cellar to store my veggies this winter. Found instruction on the internet for a wooden bin that measures 5'Lx3'Wx3'D. The bin is buried in the ground after construction. Can a plastic tote be used instead of constructing a wooden one? Are there any moisture issues associated with using a plastic bin?
