Hard to argue with their choice. I guess it depends too on what goes into the decision. If you look at professional and amatuer sports together though, Indianapolis would have to be considered one of the great sports cities as well. I'm proud to say I used to be an Indy resident and a current Pittsburgh resident. Both cities are great for sports fans.

This is cool and all, but how can it be ranked number one when it's Baseball team has sucked since...well...it was founded 123 years ago. Just curious

because, when you have two teams that have produced enough championships, history, and one of the biggest fan bases across not just the country, but the world, we become the best sports' city. Even the Pirates, with their phenominal losing abilities, still have a solid fan base and have made history throughout their mildy tragic exsistence. And when you look at the athletes and coaches from and in our city, you can't help but be in awe- Franco Harris, Mario Lemuiex, Jim Leyland, Bill Cowher, Badger Bob Johnson, and the list could go on and on. THAT is why Pittsburgh is the BEST sports' city. LET'S GO BLACK'N'GOLD!

     PITTSBURGH?!?!

With a 90% empty baseball stadium in the middle of downtown?? and from 1995-2005, a 90% empty, crumbling hockey stadium - until they got lucky enough to finish in last-place at the right time?? Not to mention, how's that NBA team doing attendance-wise?

Pittsburgh is an absolute JOKE of a sports city!! Or maybe it's best Fair-Weather Sports City. (except for the Steelers, of course)  All those 100,000+ crowds at the Pitt Panthers games too, right?

    Wow...how sickening...

And Pittsburghers think this is legitimate? "Hard to argue with this choice" someone posted...    What a laugh...  Aside from the Steelers, you're just like Cleveland...but 1/2 the size...and with a hockey team.

Outstanding!  Keep in mind that since The Sporting News www.sportingnews.com started this in 1993, only two cities, Cleveland in 1994 and St. Louis in 2000, won it without having pro sports teams in all the big four.  TSN unqestionably made the right choice.  Can we dream of two in a row here also?

Matteo- I'm guessing you haven't been to a Pittsburgh Penguins' game in while. Even when they were sucking, the stands were usually almost filled. And the past two season, the Pittsburgh Penguins have had more attendance and sell outs then ANY other SPORTS team. We aren't fair-weather fans, we are PITTSBURGH fans. We are the fans of dynasties, history, miracles and champions. We share our athletes heartaches, suffering, joys, and triumphs. Before you smack-talk the city and our sports, check your facts and talk to some real sports' fans. You'll be thoroughly put in your place. However, i highly reccommend avoiding certain bars with your attitude and opinions- you might end up getting more than you bargained for.

"and from 1995-2005, a 90% empty, crumbling hockey stadium"

Penguins attendance has averaged 15,200 per game in the last 10 years. That is the number that has attended the games, not tickets sold, which have been sellouts. 17,764 is the record for a Page and Plant concert which included floor seating.

Check your facts Matteo before you go spouting.

     Check YOUR facts.

Look at my latest post or go to Google and look it up like I did.

LAST in attendance 5 years ago - when the Pens sucked.

    11,000 a game?  you must be kidding...how minor-league.

Pens fairweathers?  LAST.  30th of 30.

Pathetic...and you call yourselves HOCKEY fans?

    What a joke.......

    Re: Best sports city

    This is totally meaningless.

When Forbes or Business Week names Pittsburgh as the

best city to start a new business, then we will have something

    significant to brag about.
