The G-20 summit to curtail Golden Triangle traffic

The Downtown business district will be closed to most vehicular traffic during the G-20 summit. [Read story.] Is it right to virtually shut down the city? Tell us what you think.

Is it right to virtually shut down the city for the fascist get-together? Sure. The Steelers aren't playing at home any of those days - only the Pirates, and nobody in their right mind cares about them.

I can't come down here to work all of next week, so I already was going to avoid the area to begin with. Ahh, who needs to earn money in order to make a living anyway? Work is so 20th century.

I'd fly away from this disaster if I felt like removing my shoes just to board a plane because you people pee your pants at the sight of your own shadow. Alas, I don't.

Hope you enjoy the police state, suckers!

Mr. Silver's article, Pittsburgh Public Safety's press release and interactive map and how they compare to the secret service memo and map released last week is very confusing.

Why doesn't the city's "restricted vehicle" and "restricted pedestrian" areas overlap or in any way coorespond to the secret service "restricted vehicle" and "restricted pedestrian" areas?  I think the city has the labeling backwards?

The secret service map from last week appeared to allow pedestrian access down liberty and into the strip.  I don't get that same interpretation from the city's map.

    Halp!

It sucks, but is there anything else they can do instead?

    Here's a few off-the-top-of-my-head suggestions:

    1) Allow us to go about our every day lives as we normally do; or,

    2) Cancel the whole damn thing.

The corporate slogan for the G-20 here is "Pittsburgh welcomes the world". Apparently, they forgot to publish the other half of it - "and banishes its citizenry."

Re: The G-20 summit to curtail Golden Triangle traffic

I do not feel that it is right to shut down the city during the G-20 Summit.   People do have to make a living.   I cannot tell my mortgage company that I did not make enough money this month because I could  not work for three days, so my income is less than usual.   You have people (I'm mainly thinking about the elderly) who have to get to doctor appointments.    They may not be able to reschedule their appointment to fit into their schedules.   I had to cancel an appointment because of no transportation.   I can't get another appointment until December.   I am a Diabetic, have a high BP, high Cholesterol and have Lupus.   So, is the G-20 Summit more important than my health,   I don't think so!!

Also, the children who will be missing school because of closures  have to make up those days missed.   It is not their fault that "ADULTS" want to close the schools and punish them for the missed days.

What is the G-20 Summit anyway.   I have not figured out what it means.    To me it is of no benefit to many of the people of the city.

You should have spent some time in school yourself, or have done a little research on the G-20 summit before you made this post.

Also the citizens around this area do not care about your petty illnesses. Get a life.

I have 14+ years of education.   I also have been working for a very respective person of the city of pittsburgh who also does work all around the world.   Just because I do not know what the G-20 Summit is, does not mean that I am being petty.   I am not into the "Political" aspects of life.

Also, I do have a life, do you?

Re: The G-20 summit to curtail Golden Triangle traffic

What Map?   I tried for 1/2 hour to get to the point where I would be entering Downtown Pittsburgh, and could not find it.   I would be coming from the West End across the bridge onto Liberty Avenue.   The first stop would be at the State Office Building.   The buses are not coming into the Downtown area.   Where would I get off the bus at.   I tried calling Port Authority, but did not get an answer.

Hope you can help me.    Most of the businesses are closed during the Summit.   My boss has instructed me and my only co-worker that we will be working on that day.   All of the other companies in our building are closed during the Summit.

I need to get to my office.

Re: The G-20 summit to curtail Golden Triangle traffic

Are you really suggesting that it is more important for you to not have to reschedule your appointment than it is to provide security to a meeting of the leaders the 20 largest countries (in terms of economies) in the world?

To answer your question, yes, the G-20 Summit is more important than your health.

If you still haven't figured out what the G-20 Summit is, perhaps instead of complaining about it you should read one of the hundreds of articles about it that you can find here or on any other news site on the internet.

Re: The G-20 summit to curtail Golden Triangle traffic

Is it right to restrict traffic - Absolutely.

I truly hope that I am wrong on this, but I believe that this region is about to pay a large price for Mr. Onorato and Mr. Ravenstall to further their political careers. These protestors are not coming here for a quiet/peaceful march.

There is a saying, those that do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. Just look at what happened in Seattle and London. Why did other cities decline. There are reasons, and we will learn a hard lesson next week.

Re: The G-20 summit to curtail Golden Triangle traffic

Why would anyone want to drive downtown anyway when its full of unbathed protestors? I will be home watching them on the idiot newscasts in this town getting stomped by the cops, Forget driving downtown.

If I drive anywhere it will be down to the local Starbucks for a latte, maybe alittle shopping at the Gap, banking at PNC then groceries at Wal-mart...LMAO

NO! Traffic should not be restricted. The media and the world should be able to see first hand how many foreign autos, trucks, and motorcycles we Americans now drive. It will showcase how we have lost our manufacturing jobs overseas and our will to lead. Would this faze Pittasburgher's or other AmeriKKKan's? I doubt it. They'll be out shopping and eating at the Olive Garden.
