I absolutely do not agree with the board's decision!!!!!  Why would they do this to somebody like Dr. Whitfield?  She has an excellent reputation in the district!  We are lucky to have someone with her dedication to be working in our school district.  I can only think that once again, our oh so wonderful board of directors has their own agenda!  If Dr. Whitfield's position is to be opened up to other candidates for consideration, why can they not provide a valid reason for doing so to the parents, teachers and taxpayers of the Chartiers Valley School District?

I think that once and for all it is time for Chartiers Valley taxpayers to do some housecleaning of our own and replace most of our board members!  It is amazing what can happen when you give someone a title.  Once again, the CV school board has made themselves look like a bunch of idiots!

Three strikes and you're out! The first mistake the school board made was in regards to Tim McConnell when they were going to open his contract up, for no apparent reason. Now they are after Dr. Whitfield. Make no mistakes - this is a personal vendetta that one or more of these so called school board members has against a prominant CV administrator. Are they out of their minds? One more strike - we should be able to fire them! No questions asked - like they would like everyone to do when they make one of their so called decisions. Good bye. Good riddance.

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

Absolutely not! Dr. Whitfield has been a valuable employee of the Chartiers Valley School District for the past twenty years. No matter what position she has held in the district, from teacher to IST Coordinator to Director of Special Education to Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Whitfield has gone above and beyond the job requirements. As Assistant Superintendent, she has earned the respect of the community she serves and the faculty she supervises. She is a dedicated and hard working professional who has made Chartiers Valley more than her job; Dr. Whitfield loves this district she serves. Everything she does in her position is for the good of our kids and for the good of our district. We can't afford to lose Dr. Whitfield. She's too good at her job. She's too good to our kids. She's too good to our district. No, not too good. Dr. Whitfield is phenomenal. Without a doubt, her contract should be renewed.

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

It is unbelievable that in this day and age that we still have school board members that are more interested in their own political agendas and power trips than they are about doing what is in the best interest of students.  Dr. Whitfield truly cares about the students in CV and is one of the hardest working and dedicated individuals I have ever known.  She has always done that which is in the best interests of students.

It is insulting to the intelligence of our community to think that this move is not politically motivated.  How can the board say this decision in NOT a reflection of Dr. Whitfield's performance and then continue with the process of opening the position up??  Sure, the board will tell the community members that this is what is mandated by school code and will continue hide behind the excuse that this is the fiscally responsible thing to do.  However, this situation could have been resolved months ago.  The board knew WELL in advance that Dr. Whitfield's contract was coming due.  Instead, certain members of this board chose to publicly humiliate her.  Unbelievable!!  What an embarrasing public relations fiasco for this school board!!  All they did was humiliate themselves!!  Kudos for those board members that had the courage to speak up on her behalf.

The CV community needs to wake up, go to the board meeting and support Dr. Whitfield.

This is the most outrageous thing I have ever heard of.  Why does the School Board have this much power as to who THEY want in there.  Tammy Whitfield is one who has stayed the course and has done what she was hired to do - be an advocate for our children and make sure our tax dollars are spent for the well being of our school district.  She's not in it for the popularity, she's there for the kids.  Isn't that what she's supposed to do?!  Now you all want to push her out since she won't play the game.  I can't stand injustice and I won't sit back and watch this happen.  Tammy Whitfield has gone way out of her way to help my kids as well as others.

The CV School Board memebrs who voted to do this are a disgrace and have again demonstrated they are using their positions for personal agendas.  Dr. Whitfield has been a unselfish advocate and friend of CV students and families, and a great supporter of the arts programs at a time when the CV Board has cut funding for fine arts activities.  She exemplifies the highest level of professional excellence and dedication, and the students and parents of this school district have benefited greatly from her efforts.  The same cannot be said for certain Board members, and I'm sure we parents will keep this in mind at re-election time.

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

Dr. Whitfield's position should ABSOLUTELY NOT have been opened.  If, as the members of the board have repeatedly asserted, this decision was "not a reflection of Dr. Whitfield's performance," then why was the decision made???  This is an individual who has devoted her career to serving the children of the community which she calls home.  She performs the duties of her job with impressive skill and impeccable professionalism.  Dr. Whitfield has always been willing to tackle any challenge that may arise with enthusiasm, knowledge, skill, and determination, to say nothing of the grace and compassion with which she treats each and every member of the community and staff of the Chartiers Valley School District.  She works tirelessly and exemplifies the notion of going "above and beyond" the call of duty.  If such an individual cannot at the very least expect job security in return for her numerous efforts, there is something inherently wrong with the system that is controlling our schools.  Public education, theoretically, exists for the purpose of educating and thereby bettering the prospects for each and every child in the community.  Dr. Whitfield has certainly lived up to this ideal, by whole-heartedly advocating for ALL children in the district to be provided with the best educational programs available.  The decision of the school board to consider other candidates for this position can only be interpreted as a personal vendetta.  If the best interests of the children whom they were elected to serve were truly at the forefront of the board members' thoughts, they would laud Dr. Whitfield for her service.  Instead, they have chosen to send the message to the children of their community that work ethic and quality are meaningless while popularity and power trump all.  I for one refuse to believe that the majority of community members hold this opinion, and hope that this will be made clear to the members of the school board in due time.

NO NO NO Now is the time we need good people in responsible jobs.   If the c.v. board wants law suits put someone in there that doesnt know the rights of students and see what happens.  If you want to raise your school taxes it can be done when they will be paying out a ton of money for wrong decisions made by incompetent people just like the ones on our school board.  So Sad

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

Again, I think Dr. Whitfield is the only person for the position, as will be seen by the board while going through the process of considering other people.  My question is 'how many of the people who are complaining about the board actually performed their civic duty and voted for (or against) them?'  Anyone who hasn't voted has no right to complain one way or the other.  For those of us who did vote, we followed the democratic process, and majority ruled.  This is the board we voted in.  We are the one's who control who sits on the board.  We all have a voice.  If we know of a legitimate reason someone should not have a seat on the board, the time to air that information is prior to the election.  It seems to me that many of the people writing in have their own personal agendas.  School board meetings are held monthly, and open to the public.  Maybe everyone should consider attending the next meeting, where their voices can be heard in an open forum!

Dear LS...  Maybe if we had qualified candidates on the ballot we would be able to elect a qualified board!  When it came time to vote for the school board...it sure was slim pickings!!!!

If the Chartiers Valley School District does not renew the contract of Dr. Tammy Whitfield, it would be one of the biggest mistakes ever made.  Never have I seen such a committed, dedicated, supportive, and caring person.  Dr. Whitfield is the epitamy of what a superintendent should be.

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

The school board should not open Dr. Whitfield's job, and should renew her contract immediately. I have been impressed by Dr. Whitfield's drive to always do what is in the best interests of the children at Chartiers Valley. Its one thing to say that you work in the best interests of children, and its a much more difficult thing to do on a daily basis. Based on all these comments of support for Dr. Whifield, it seems clear that she has always worked hard to serve the children of Chartiers Valley even in the face adversity. What more could anyone in the community want?

A message to the board: You now have a chance to reverse this injustice, and do the sensible and right thing. The community is telling you loud and clear what they beleive to be the correct course of action here. Now is the time to act, and to actually show that you have the community's best interests at heart. As the old cliche goes: Its time to walk the walk rather than talk the talk!

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

Why would you want to mess with the very glue that holds Chartiers Valley School District together? Dr. Tammy Whitfield is needed in this district for all of the comments that have been posted regarding this decision.  Even if they do open this, you will never find a person who knows the students, community, faculty and staff and demonstrates the ability to work with all of these stakeholders to get things accomplished in this fine district.  The learning curve would be enormous, progress would be on hold (or decline) and our community would suffer.  Dr. Whitfield has a demonstrated track record that is untarnished.....her job performance has been nothing but stellar and has actually placed CV in the position that it is today.

I feel that we should approach our legislators to change the qualifications for being a school board member.  What other muti-million dollar corporation in this country is run by "lay" people who only are self-serving and have a continuous, renewable budget....which they can also increase as they decide whether to increase millage or not?  School Board Members' qualifications need to be revised if we are ever going to move the educational process in this  country.  Obviously, their qualifications do not meet their level of responsibility.....as demonstrated in CV over and over again.

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

I am an alumni of Chartiers Valley, where I was actively involved in many extra curricurlar activities, and maintained above a 4.0 throughout all four years of high school. I knew Dr. Whitfield, and she was a powerful, caring, and professional woman, who engaged herself with faculty, students, and parents. She is beyond inspiring and has always made an effort to consider all options, when implementing ideas and decisions. I admire her ethics and willingness to do what is right, when everyone else does what is popular. She is not afraid to stand up for the truth, and has demonstrated that belief in many ways, especially a few years ago when a coach's actions became an issue. She stood up for the truth and is now paying the consequences for it. I knew her well, and I'm sure that she would do the same thing all over again, if given the chance. The six school board members who voted to open Dr. Whitfield's contract do not appreciate what a wonderful asset she is to Chartiers Valley. Those six board members appear to be voting in retaliation to Dr. Whitfield telling the truth. Each one of those six, Jeff Chora, Patty Figorski, Herb Oliger, Thomas Galluze, Pam Poletti, and Bridget Kelly, should be utterly ashamed for the way they voted, and should be removed from their position. They voted on what they want personally, rather than what is best for the district. To possibly remove Dr. Whitfield from Assistant Superintendent is a disgrace, and all six of them should be embarrassed, that they are using their power to get their own agenda accomplished. Those six may feel powerful now, but come election time, they shoudl be extremely nervous!

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

What an embarrassment to our school district that the school board would choose to open the position of a valued and dedicated employee of 21 years.  Anyone involved in the school knows how critical it is that we retain Dr. Whitfield.  Patti Figorski, Board President, should be ashamed that her negligence led to such a last minute decision.  The community should take note,  however, that not all board members agreed with the decision.  The vote read 6-3.  At least we have three of our board members have a head on their shoulders.  The important thing to remember, at least for now, is that three of the six that made this colossal mistake are up for re-lection.  They say no to Dr. Whitfield, I say NO to CHOURA, KELLY AND GALLUZE in November!
