No, I do not agree with the Board's decision. As a long time resident,
I feel as if this situation is an embarrassment to the community and the
district. A couple of thoughts:
If this decision was not a reflection on Dr. Whitfield, then what was it a
reflection on? I believe that the taxpayers that voted in our representatives
have the right to know exactly why one of the major decision makers in the
educational process of our children is being suddenly reconsidered. Has
there been a flaw in the process? Has Dr. Whitfield somehow not performed
her duties in accordance with her contract? Judging from the outcomes
that are coming from this embarrassing situation, it seems that the simple
outcome is no, or Dr. Whitfield would just quietly have walked away from the
Board's decision with no contest.
The final question that begs to be asked is this - If the district has a
qualified, accredited administrator that has improved the standard of education
in the district, then why is the Board currently considering other
candidates? If there was a dispute regarding contractual matters, it
seems that the correct business course of action would be to review the
contract quietly and professionally and come to some agreeable terms for all
parties involved, and in the best interests of the school district. This
has not happened, and seems to be a decision based on personal matters or
politics. Both of which seemingly have nothing to do with providing the
students of Chartiers Valley the best possible education that their parents and
neighbors have paid their hard earned dollars for.
