NO! If the board would do things correctly, this would not be happening! It's truly a shame that you can be a hard working, decidated, caring, well educated, well respected individual that has devoted her life to her job in the "Valley", then have this happen. It's a slap in the face. Where is the justice? The board should be very proud to have Dr. Whitfield as an Administrator. I've never seen a situation or job handed to her that she couldn't handle and complete with extreme professionalism. If there were more people in the "Valley" like her, just think of where this district would be. The board members need to remember, that the same thing could happen to them, come election time.

Why would 6 members of this school board even consider such a ridiculous move?  As far as I am concerned, Dr. Whitfield is an employee that this school district can not afford to lose.  Responsible board members?  I think not.

They said their decision was no reflection on Dr. Whitfield's job performance so I am confused as to why they would want to consider other candidates.   I don't blame Dr. Whitfield for seeking legal counsel.  It is contradictory to me and sounds as though there is an underlying issue.  It can't be money as this district spends a lot of money in construction, fields, etc.  If the Board was really acting responsibly, they would renew a contract for a hardworking and dedicated employee such as Dr. Whitfield.

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

As the mother of 4 children who attend the Chartiers Valley School District, I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Whitfield on many levels.  She is a caring and compassionate administrator, on top of filling the position of school psychologist wonderfully.  As residents of the district we voted on the school board.  I personally believe the board we have in place has performed in the way it was intended.  Our school board directors have to think about the district as a whole, and make their decsions based on best business practices.

I am confident that in their search they will not find a candidate more qualified than Dr. Whitfield.  My business mind tells me they do have to explore all options available.  I am on their side as long as they proceed down this avenue in all similar instances, and this is not a decision that was made based on personal feelings or emotion; rather based on what is best for the students of the school district.

I think that it is ridiculous that a school board (certian members)  could even entertain the idea of opening Dr. Whitfield's position. She is a well educated and very well respected member of the district and the community. It is appalling to me that certain members are acting on their own personal agenda's. Call me crazy, but I thought the school board was to act in the best interest of the district!!! Any district would be blessed to have such a hardworking, intelligent, and strong administrator in their district.  The board better be very smart about their decision, because they do not have to be re-elected!!

NO.  How can the school directors even consider releasing such a wonderful person!                 Dr. Whitfield is the most hard working administrator CV has.  A warm hearted person that knows how to talk with people while managing to stay professional.  Her knowledge of the workings of the school district is second to none.  This school board should reconsider before it's too late and another district becomes aware of what we have.

I absolutely do not agree with this decision!!!!  This board seems to be motivated by things are are not particularly related to Dr. Whitfield.  It is very sad that the board members have their own agenda, instead of having the interest of the community in mind.  They are suppose to be representing the community, because they are voted in by the community!  I am very dissapointed in their decision making!

Dr. Whitfield is a wonderful educator!  She always has the children in mind when making decisions.  She does not make decisions for her own benefit!  I hope Dr. Whitfield chooses to stay in the district after all of this mess!  We really do love her!

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

I do not agree with the board's decision to consider other candidates. Chartiers Valley School District has been in a "Win-Win" situation since the day they first hired Tammy Whitfield over 20 years ago. Dr. Whitfield has always really liked and valued the students, parents, and staff and helps everyone experience success. From the very beginning Dr. Whitfield has been committed to the people that make up the entire school district. She has the vision to see the "big picture" and ability to lead and fit the pieces together for student and district growth. Even as a new teacher Dr. Whitfield made an enormous difference in the lives of the students and their families. At a regional awards ceremony for Excellence in Education, entire families showed up with flowers to thank Dr. Whitfield for her interest and support. As the Instrucional Support Team Leader at the Middle School the Pa. state Accreditation Team was in awe of Dr. Whitfield's endeavors. They said the program Dr. Whitfield established should be the state model. As Director of Special Education she worked tirelessly to address the needs of the students, parents, and staff. As Assistant Superintendent Dr. Whitfiield leads with integrity and vision. Throughout all of these successes, Dr. Whitfield has deflected praise and credits the Chartiers Valley students, parents, and staff. Dr. Whitfield has brought such success and honor to Chartiers Valley. She is at the very heart of what makes Chartiers Valley a wonderful school district. She is a very valuable administrator and a very special human being. I urge the school directors of Chartiers Valley to immediately renew Dr. Whitfield's contract.

As I retired Chartiers Valley High School teacher, I feel the need to comment on the unthinkable action recently taken by some members of the Chartiers Valley School Board.  I can honestly say that Dr. Tammy Whitfield was one of the most intelligent, professional, and fair minded administrators I ever had the pleasure of knowing.  She has also been very dedicated and loyal to the District, and she puts in many extra hours to perform her job in an excellent manner.  Is this the thanks she gets?  Maybe it's time these six board members move on and let people who recognize talent and excellence run the District.

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

No, I do not agree with the Board's decision.  As a long time resident, I feel as if this situation is an embarrassment to the community and the district.  A couple of thoughts:

If this decision was not a reflection on Dr. Whitfield, then what was it a reflection on?  I believe that the taxpayers that voted in our representatives have the right to know exactly why one of the major decision makers in the educational process of our children is being suddenly reconsidered.  Has there been a flaw in the process?  Has Dr. Whitfield somehow not performed her duties in accordance with her contract?  Judging from the outcomes that are coming from this embarrassing situation, it seems that the simple outcome is no, or Dr. Whitfield would just quietly have walked away from the Board's decision with no contest.

The final question that begs to be asked is this - If the district has a qualified, accredited administrator that has improved the standard of education in the district, then why is the Board currently considering other candidates?  If there was a dispute regarding contractual matters, it seems that the correct business course of action would be to review the contract quietly and professionally and come to some agreeable terms for all parties involved, and in the best interests of the school district.  This has not happened, and seems to be a decision based on personal matters or politics.  Both of which seemingly have nothing to do with providing the students of Chartiers Valley the best possible education that their parents and neighbors have paid their hard earned dollars for.

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

NO!  The school board should be ashamed!  The board president stated “it is irresponsible for the board to rubber stamp anything, let alone a contract of this magnitude” after noting that they had not received the contract until shortly before the meeting.  It is beyond irresponsible that, given over four years notice, they waited until the last minute to even add the item to the agenda.  The board should have taken action long ago to present a contract to Dr. Whitfield rather than propose opening the position and risk losing her.  The president also stated that their actions are “not a reflection on Dr. Whitfield.”  They are right because it should only be a direct reflection on the board and their failure to prepare and do their jobs.  They could not possibly find a reason to consider replacing such a hard-working, intelligent, and dedicated educator.  We teach our children to work hard and take pride in what they do.  Yet, when this is modeled for them, they are shown that it doesn’t matter.  It really should frighten the community that this group has the power to consider taking away an invaluable advocate to their children.

It is truly ashame that one's qualifications, work experience and impeccable reputation are not enough to overcome neighborhood politics. Dr. Whitfield is an outstanding educator who has demonstrated the ability to do what is best for children and the employees she works with in the district. She deserves a contract without being intimidated or bullied.

Re: Should the Chartiers-Valley school board open Dr. Tammy Whitfield's job?

This type of personal agenda put forward by the 6 Board members is really not that unusal for this group of individuals.  They have their own personal agendas and have no interest in the "overall" well being of the district.  One school member has even been quoted as saying " now she (Dr. Whitfield) knows what it feels like to be on the other end".   It sounds like a personal agenda to me!

It is so nice to see the CV community reacting to this forum and letting their feelings be known about Dr. Whitfield.  It was so enjoyable going to meetings and to see how prepared and honest Dr. Whitfield was with the Board and the CV community.  I have never met a person who is more dedicated to Chartiers Valley than Dr. Whitfield.

It's time for those 6 Board Members to move on with their lives and let someone else represent the taxpayers of Chartiers Valley.

We love you Dr. Whitfield and will always be there for you just as you have been there for us!
