Will the housing development for seniors lead to renewal in Braddock?

Construction of a 53-unit senior housing development on Braddock Avenue is well under way, with the building due to open next spring. Braddock officials see it as part of a grander plan to refurbish the Braddock Avenue corridor. Do you agree that this project will lead to renewal in Braddock? [Read PG story.]

It'll definitely be a plus for the town, but more than one high rise is needed to accomplish anything.  Maybe this one will lead to another one.

Secondly, it remains to be seen how the residents maintain the place.  Graffiti, trash, etc. scattered around will not do the place justice.  Maintaining it is the key.

There is definitely a need for housing development for seniors but whether it will lead to a 'renewal' in Braddock is possibly a stretch.  If there is going to be housing for seniors in this area there should also be resources for them as well.  Transportation can be an issue for many seniors.  Not all seniors have access to their own transportation, or family members that have the capability to assist them.  How accessible will the area be for public transportation?

Housing seniors in a blighted area can be problematic.  There should be conveniences for the elderly such as shopping and community centers for socialization.

Why hasn't Braddock already had a revitalazation project in the works?  I don't say that to knock Braddock.  I understand that different communities have suffered due to economic reasons.  It just seems to me that housing seniors in an area that doesn't have community resources available for them will be a problem.
