Should beer be sold and consumed at Giant Eagle?

Giant Eagle customers would be able to pick up a six pack of beer to go or be allowed to consume beer in the store restaurant if the state Liquor Control Board approves liquor licenses for its stores in Pine, Seven Fields, South Strabane and Ohio Township.      Why not, the rest of the country has been doing this for years.  But this is 19th century Pennsylvania where progress is slow.

Sure. A no brainer.  Allablaze - has Pa. actually progressed to the 19th century?

Six pack sales in grocery stores will not hurt beer distributors any more than six pack sales in bars do.  You have to buy beer by the case at a beer distributor and cannot buy a six pack or two.  It takes so long for me to go through a case, the beer gets stale.  I prefer not to go to a bar or tavern to purchase a six pack or two.  Being able to go to a grocery store would be ideal.  Pennsylvania needs to move into the 21st century and sell both wine and beer in grocery stores.  Others states have been doing it for years and they have no higher incidence of alcoholics and underage drinking.  Grocery stores have to card people who purchase cigarettes already, and they would do the same for beer sales.

Uh riiiiight...so progress in PA is defined as selling beer in grocery markets...genius.  No wonder why western PA is so provincial.

But hey that's fine by me.  I'm a trial lawyer.   The increase in alcohol related accidents will just make Giant Eagle that much more of a target.  I can just see it now:  the zit-faced 16 year old cashier performing oh such a thorough check of his high school buddy's new "Delaware" license.  And have fun cleaning all of the discarded six packs containers off the sides of your roads.  Like we don't have enough already lining our roads.

    Progress...right.

Selling beer in grocery stores is long over due.

Making a decison based on how it affects distributors is nonsense

Anything that makes shopping at a Giant Eagle a better experience is OK with me. The lousy produce and overpriced groceries would be easier to take with a couple of beers or a bottle of wine.

Giant Eagle is a well-established, asset to the community.  I'd much rather buy a six pack at a Giant Eagle than have to go to some local smoke filled dive bar.
