It amazes me that the Democrats aren’t twenty-five percentage points ahead of the Republicans at this stage of the presidential campaign, but they keep making poor choices that benefit the Republicans!

Joe Biden comes across (in my book) as a condescending “know-it-all” who is philosophically Barack Obama without any charm or grace or charisma. Who’s he going to attract other than the same voters who now support Obama?

Sarah Palin, on the other hand, will convince many ultra-conservative Republicans (God help us), who think McCain is too moderate, to support this ticket. I suspect a few Hillary Democrats will cross party lines along with many on-the-fence American women who see Gov. Palin as an articulate, intelligent and capable politician.

Another big mistake the Democrats are making is constantly running their vehemently “Pro-Choice” radio ads. Abortion rights supporters are going to vote for Obama, period, but many “Pro-Lifers,” who are leaning toward Obama, don’t need to be reminded, constantly, that they are ignoring their conscience.

Gov. Palin’s speech was much better than I expected, and she came across as likeable and approachable. She reminded me of those women you deal with in life who put a smile on your face and make you feel slightly special. She wasn’t pedantic, and her voice had a mellifluous quality that mitigated her conservative views.

I like Ms. Palin, and, if she were a Democrat, I’d vote for her.

I like Mr. McCain, and, if he were a Democrat, I’d vote for him.

Hell, I might vote for them if they were liberal Republicans, but they’re not, and that’s the rub.

This country may not survive four more years with a Republican administration and Barack Obama is a good man to lead us into the “Promised Land!”

The soldier on the radio was a Morgantown man who served 2 tours of duty over there. They are no where near being self-reliant in Iraq.

On the Palin's.....the daughter "chose" to keep the baby. This is a choice her mother wants to take away from women in this country--even in the case of RAPE! I wish that poor girl luck with the boyfriend. His My Space page said he didn't want children!!

If you can afford to be taxed to death, more power to you. I would rather see "big" goverment go away. These elected officials, whether Allegheny County or the US Gov. are supposed to "SERVE" the people. Not create so many friggin programs that we can't pay for unless we get taxed to death. All of these wild unnecessary programs we currently have and the many more I'm affraid the Dems will initiate if elected are like Heroin. Once on it, no one can seem to get off it. And the "pork barrel" lunacy that goes on in ALL PARTIES, that a whole other story of wasteful spending that has put this country in debt.

But I will say this, might be a pleasure to meet you in the "food line" after we get taxed to death!

Geez, doc...you really give republicans way too much credit. How did they play 'you' (I presume you mean Democrats and/or liberals) for suckers? Nobody has forced you to join the Republican party. Last I looked, you still have the right to vote your conscience. I'm sorry that you're 'sickened' to think that she might be one heartbeat away from the Presidency. You must really be sickened to realize that you and your fellow Democrats actually CHOSE to kick an experienced politician to the curb (Hillary) and instead run a totally inexperienced rookie whose main claim to fame is that he was a neighborhood activist. Yeah, that ought to have the world leaders quaking in their collective boots. Obama couldn't hold a candle to Hillary's experience, yet the PC crowd apparently decided that having the first Black president was more important than having an experienced woman in office. You ask how in heaven's name can she bone up on all of the issues? The answer is really quite simple..she'll do exactly what George W has done, and Bill Clinton before him...they will rely on the advisors that they will surround themselves with. Probably every president since George Washington has relied on trusted friends and advisors. Nothing new there. I do, however, agree with your comment about voters being fools for being fooled by bigger fools. I presume you mean in 1992 and again in 1996 when we voted twice for Slick Willie Clinton....yet another governer with little real experience, except for defrauding the real estate and banking industries. (see "Whitewater Scandal") And that was before the Democratic Ship of Fools decided that he deserved to be President of the United States. Er, question: Why is it that Governer Palin is being crucified before she is even given a chance, while Slick Willie got chance after chance after chance...and even after pleading guilty to some of the charges, he continued to receive more and more chances? Oh yeah, I forgot, he's a Democrat.

So it is OK for Biden, Obama, the media and other men to fling baseless attacks at her and her family. It is OK for Biden and Obama to attack the Republican ticket and falsely claim McCain to be 4 more years of the same but for her to respond is crass. Wake up American, the VP candidates have historically handled the job of attacking the positions of the other party. I recall watching Biden's speech last week which was filled with significantly more attacks and falsehoods than Gov. Palin's speech yet was greeted with cheers. Seems that you speak out of both sides of your mouth, men or Democrats can do it while women or Republicans cannot.

I find it distasteful and disgusting for liberal women to attack her success, this historic moment for all women. While you may not agree with all of her politics one needs to be impressed with the fact she is able to balance a career and family, that she has suceeded in an "Old boy's network" and that she handled herself with dignity in the face of enourmous and unfair character attacks that no man would have to endure. She did not wine but came out swinging. We would admire a man for doing the same.

Gov. Palin was very impressive, even more so when one considers that this was the first time she has ever appeared before such a large audience, the teleprompter failed and she only had 5 days to prepare for the speech. Yes, she did not write the entire speech herself, but then again, neither did Obama, Biden, Clinton or McCain. No politician writes their own content, they just help edit it to make it more their own. The difference is all of the above had significantly more time to prepare their base rhetoric. Put into context she put them all to shame.

The obivious political hatchet job being done by the media and even in these pages is digusting. She has been scrutinized more in 5 days than Obama has in 18 months and she has been not only up to the task but shined in the process.

I have seen her criticized in this blog for attacking the democratic ticket and highlighting differences between the candidates but I did not see anyone complaining about the attack style of Biden or even Obama in their speeches. This is a perfect example of the double standard too many non-thinkers place upon others based on their own slanted thinking or bias.

Marci, I think you're mixing apples and oranges. If we're going to look at the Spears family at all, its clear to see that they epitomize the phrase, "Dysfunctional Family". The parents ought to be arrested for pimping their daughters like whores to the media. Those girls are simply out of control. I would think that Palin took a big chance on having the boyfriend at the Convention...if he dumps Bristol, Sarah is going to look bad. I believe she took a calculated risk that her daughter and the boyfriend are 'in love' and really do plan on getting married. Remember, Sarah and her husband were high school sweethearts, too...and they've been together ever since. It is possible that you heard a soldier on the radio whining about his lot in Iraq. I, however, personally know soldiers who have served over there and their stories are of nothing but pride in having served in the American military. They say that we are, in fact, winning the war, that Iraq is on the verge of being totally self-reliant, and that the Iraqi citizens are grateful that we chose to go in there and rid the country of Hussain. However, you won't hear stories like these in mainstream Liberal news outlets, like the NY Times and CNN. To that degree, its no different than knowing that thousands of women spend every day of their lives regretting the decision to abort their babies when they were young and self-centered. You'll see them on religious channels and neutral outlets, but you will NEVER see any of them on CNN or in the NY Times. As far as The Daily Show...trash TV at its worst. Look at the posts here and see how many bloggers have complained that Palin was crass, immature, self-serving....those terms describe what goes on each day on the Daily Show, as well as on Real Time with Bill Maher. He's one of the most vicious personalities on the air, but he gets a free pass because he only picks on Republicans.

Awake American...I wonder how you can liken Palin's comments as being 'crass', when Democrats and the liberal media have been slinging insults and put downs towards the Republicans all year, but especially in the past few weeks? The only difference I can see is that the Dems try to rationalize their behavior by claiming to be speaking 'factually'. Prime example: Saying that a McCain presidency is tantamount to having "Four more years (of Bush)...NOBODY knows what McCain will be like as president unless and until he holds the office. At this point it's all conjecture. But, would you rather trust the presidency to a man with true political savvy and experience, or hand it to a rookie who has less actual experience than Palin? A man who refused to state his position in 131 senate votes? The simple fact of the matter is that Democrats and Liberals are going to attack Palin no matter what she says or does. Some bloggers complained that she spent too much time calling attention to her family last night. If she hadn't, the same bloggers would have been saying that she's going to ignore her family for the sake of politics. If she had been thoughtful, caring, sensitive, and emotional last night, the Democratic bloggers would have flooded this forum with comments about how she's too emotional and sensitive to be president. As I said, with some bloggers she can't win, no matter what she does.

Governor Palin is an example of the suckers the Republicans play us for. And amazingly people still believe all this stuff they hand us like the attack dog:Ms Palin. She is another example of Spiro Agnew and his "nattering neighbobs."

It sickens me that she might be one heartbeat away from the Presidency. Remember how Premier Khrushchev foolishly judged Kennedy to be an inexperienced person. Kennedy bravely and shredly avoided all out confrontation with a man who misjudged his adversary. But look also at the advisors Kennedy had in his hour of need. Top men. Not shoot from the hip neocoms.

Now comes the ice hockey mom. Putin can hardly wait! What about the shrewd leaders of the Middle East? Have no fear: The ice hockey mom is here!

How in heaven's namwe can she bone up on all the issues that will face her? Or will she rely on Mom's Wisdom. We are all suckers for Mom, apple pie and mooseburgers.

I have a theory on the American Presidency! The country getrs exactly what it deserves. What with the torn chads and a little bit of help from the Supreme Court we got W! My childrern's grand children will still be paying for this awful war. He has virtually destroyed the nation. He's giving Georgia One billion dollars in aid when kids in our schools are using books copy written in 1982.

All we need is a nice lady with great PTA knowledge plus knowing how to cook a damn moose! The world leaders are quaking in their boots.

God forbid another 4 years of neocom philosophy. God help us if and when Ms. Palin becomes President.

Never in our history do we need clear and bold leadership. But that doesn't mean it will happen. We voters are such damn fools simply by being fooled by bigger fools.. And they can be fooled by bigger fools.

I wasn't swayed by the "Alaskan Snow Job" who is running for VP. I love that her daughter got to "choose" to keep her baby and they are "proud of her," and yet....Palin wants our daughters to have no choice in the matter--even if raped! Are you kidding me? I loved how they also wanted the "children" kept out of the media frenzy, and yet they paraded the whole clan out on the stage and flew in the boyfriend--then "fiance" as of yesterday--for the "positive spin" photo op.

When Jamie Lynn Spears announced she was pregnant, the Conservatives went nuts on her and her parents. Bill O' Reilly said the blame was all on the parents and called them "PINHEADS." Now, he says that the Palin family is off limits -- that as long as they can support the child having the child--all is OK...give them space and peace!! I wondered if this issue would be brought up. YES!! The DAILY SHOW nailed it last night!! Great show and full of the TRUTH!!

I won't vote for a woman becasue she is one! OMG!! I guess they think we are stupid! There will be no victory in Iraq....a soldier on the radio here this AM said we are "screwed" over there. I heard no mention of the economy last night.....just the POW stories of a "great man." I'll give him that..and she was a great speech reader. She may even make him look bad tonight in light of how well she did at the podium.

I did not like Sarah or her speech. I do not approve of women who liken themselves to bitches no matter how cleverly they do so. I also thought that I was watching a Don Rickles comedy routine - cute, but where's the economy? The Iraq War?

And to top it off, I was much annoyed by her husband's constant handing of Baby Trig to his daughter. He should get used to being the primary care giver. Or, we need to find out if Palin is paying some poor woman $2. an hour to be nanny to her children.

I don't find anything wrong with being a thoughtful, caring, sensitive, emotional woman. Her imitation alpha dog was most vicious. I didn't want to hear insults and put downs - Palin struck me as rather crass.
