It's hard to believe that they are still looking for a $4 Million dollar handout to build an unneeded amphitheater on land they obtained in a sweetheart deal. (I'll not mention their urgency to get the buy out of the team through to save taxes that might occur from their man Obama.)

One might say that Dan is also a shrewd business man and is only doing what it takes to stay that way. So be it, but then let's not idolize him as has been done, and take him as he is. There are other companies in Pittsburgh, run by CEO's we don't even know, and they just do their thing. You don't hear too much about them.

Let's put Dan in this class and get him off this pedestal. He has shown he is just out to get what he can and increase his abundant wealth, and no more.

It's just hard to believe that he can, with a serious face, ask for $4 million dollars from the public, so he can further line his pockets. I'll bet he carries at least $4 mill in his right pocket.

The meal was yummy and the restaurant's Egyptian motif created an ambiance few area eateries rival. Never the moocher, Toadsly treated OT's companion to a wonderful repast and left a 25% gratuity plus a heartfelt thank you for outstanding service. I never leave less than 20% because I understand everyone, occasionally, has an off day, and food servers are no exception.

The Cheesecake Factory is located between Nordstrom and L.L. Bean. The latter has outdoor gear and OT is an indoor amphibian, so OT went for a peak at the new Nordstrom store. There were few cars in its parking lot at about 6 p.m., and we parked directly across from Nordstrom's entrance.

The store was nice enough inside, but the lack of shoppers was disconcerting. I only wear shocking pink, silk muumuus (if you find that incredible simply check out my surreal avatar) created by Mr. Wang in Hong Kong, and Nordstrom didn't carry any, so I quickly departed.

Have you been to the new Nordstrom store? Was it crowded? Will you purchase Christmas gifts there?

Psalm 137: By the waters of Babylon we sat down and wept...

Since I read Samantha Bennett's column, "Just try wrapping fish with your Compaq," yesterday, I've had a feeling of dread -- an angst-xiety attack!

A digital Pittsburgh without its inked Post-Gazette is too befuddling to contemplate. Perhaps, I'm as anachronistic as a paper newspaper, but I make no apologies to the electronic age and the readers who prefer a screen to a rustling, tactile printed page.

I love rooting through the Post-Gazette. Clicking a mouse never connects me to columnists and stories the way turning pages does.

I detest cell phones because they destroyed the feeling of freedom I relished in a car, or a park, or a theater; I loath digital newspapers because they can't be folded, or torn, or left on a table for fellow paper-newspaperphiles to enjoy.

Being a member of the involuntarily superannuated club, my heart goes out to any journalist who has lost or will lose their position with the Post-Gazette or any other newspaper. The very limited, e-mailing interactions I've had with PG stalwarts like Reg Henry, Greg Victor and John Allison exposed them as gentlemen of the highest order and acuity. I can only assume their colleagues possess these traits, because the PG is a magnificent daily.

Ever since scribes painted hieroglyphic characters on papyrus sheets, hungry minds have gleefully consumed the written word on paper.

Today, newspaper-reading gourmands use digital devices and gourmets buy newspapers!
