Keep it mulched and water it once a week in the morning if there isn't rain. Really soak it, it only needs one inch of water a week.

They like morning sun and afternoon shade, but as I said, it it blooms it's happy enough to stay in that location.

Hydrangea - Too much sun?

Hi Doug,

I have a question for you about my hydrangea. I planted it last year and it has grown very well with a number of flowers. The problem is that I think it may have too much sun. It is in the front of my house (sunny side) but does have some shade. It is in the shade when i leave in the morning (8 am) and come home at night (5:30 pm), but probably gets a good deal of sun during the day. If I don't water every day (and sometimes even when I do) and if it is really hot out, when I come home the leaves are drooped real low and the flowers are wilted. As the sun goes down and I add water, they come back and look healthy again, until the next day when it wilts again. Any idea if there is anything I can do/add tot he soil to stop it? It has a good deal of mulch around to hold try to hold moisture in. Should I dig it up this fall and move it to a shadier spot? Thank you!
