I think that the Steelers should have no room on their roster for someone who thinks it's ok to lay out their own teammate during training camp. How stupid can you be? Anthony Smith needs to get his head straight and figure out who the opponent is. It certainly isn't Hines Ward or anyone else in a black and gold uniform. That is utterly ridiculous.

As long as he's not a problem in the locker room or to the defense then hey, BUST HEADS! If you check the records this isn't the first time this has happened to the Steelers. I can recall a point in time when our defense wouldn't even talk to the offense (the LLoyd era). It's good to have somebody on the team that brings our soft secondary a little nastiness. If Smitty is going to give it to the competition then who gives a crap about an article or a practice. Those are men out there. Steelers. The defense is supposed to scare the sh#t out of everyone. I'm not saying it was cool to hit Ward but that's part of the game. Our defense is getting soft and it's about time for another hardhead.

Go get em Smitty!

Leave the moniker's for the likes of Chris Henry & Pac-Man Jones.

I completely agree that this whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. My guess is that it's being dealt with by Coach T and the players behind close doors as it should be.

It's time to move on.

What's the big deal?? So what if he nailed Ward, it's Football even when you're not in "contact" drills. This is what we want to see from our defense, hard hits and aggressive behavior. We don't want to injure our own players, but I didn't see Ward on the injury report either. Give the man a break.

Hit them all like that Smith!!

Agree with most, that Smith needs to go. His stupidity from last year and taking cheap shots on his own players is ridiculous. Chances are he has an idea where a play is going when you continuously go against the same offense. So he knew what he was doing when he launced himself at Hines. Of course fb is a contact sport, and when you are man on man in the trenches, or tackling in the hole, eveyone expects you to go all out 100%, but to cheap shot a receiver who is less protected and possibly changing the dynamics of your offensive scheme for the season due to an idiot's poor decision making should not be tolerated.

No one is questioning his ability its his blantant dis-regard for his fellow teamates who are expecting not to be blasted in 7 on 7 drills. He is a great talent but that doesn't place him above criticism for repeated bad judgement on the practice feild forget about the garauntee cause if it had worked everyone would have loved him for it. My problem lies with his atitiude toward structure and coaching. He was told and as a vet he knows that you dont try to kill your leader in 7 on 7 drills when he is not expecting full contact. If it had been 11 on 11 and they were told its live strap it up then so be it but that wasnt the case in either instance with hines or willie. And for those of you who find it neccessary to criticize ward for "crying" he said nothing about the hit you can see wasnt happy about it but he said nothing. It is the media and his coaches that jumped all over him so know what your talking about before you comment PLEASE.

I thought the original uproar was about the wording used to describe the action just about everyone is agreement that it was not called for even his coaches said that much so dont attempt to defend the hit because there is no defense for it you need to know better simple as that. If he had taken Big Ben out for the season with a hit in 7 on 7 I would like to see the same people here defending him for destroying the steelers season just because he is a little aggressive. Love the kid and was a fan of how played the game but great players make enough plays during live play to ever need to take a cheap shot on teamates when they are not expecting it.

Why are we talking about this guy?? Some reporter calls him a thug and now we have to waste our time discussing a player who would rather nail his own players and miss tackles and is out of position 95% of the time he in on the Field. I have never seen a 2nd or 3rd string guy get so much press!!! Nice job Anthony, your claim to fame so far is running your mouth and then getting used by the Patriots ,Becoming the biggest ass in the league and Nailing your own player in training camp!!! Bright future for this guy!!

Lets talk about how Troy can't stay healthy and how having Ryan Clark back is suddenly going to make us better than last year (yeah right).I am excited to watch Ike Taylor not intercept anything and get used in big games again. This secondary has more issues than Anthony Smith!!

I have to wonder, if Smith had made the guarantee, then went out and had an interception, fumble recovery, and 10 tackles. Would he have been the in the minds of the now (haters) the greatest DB in the league. What was he suppose to say (they are going to beat us, we don't have a chance, etc. etc.) Trust me you will love him again this year, as you were loving him in his first pre-season delvering hits and making plays.

I think what Anthony Smith did may have been a little aggressive, but I'd be very surprised if he laid anyone out. I think it's probably more of a matter of Hines Ward crying again about nothing because he thinks he deserves special attention. Play the game Hines and quit worrying about everyone else. I used to love Hines, and I still love the way he plays, but I think he is one of the bigger crybaby's I've seen in a long time and constantly feels like he doesn't get any respect. I think that's a bigger issue than Anthony Smith. People get on Anthony for some of the stupid things he's done or said, like the "guarantee", but he has potential to be a very good safety in this league and hits harder than most people I've seen. I'd like to see him grow up a little and he has a chance to make a name for himself.

99.9% of the male Steelers fan base wishes they had the size and ability to be a Steeler (I cannot speak for the ladies), so we're all "frustrated wanna-be athletes" too?

I suppose all political analysits are frustrated wanna be politicans and anyone who covers NASA is a frustrated wanna-be astronaut.

I know I love my job so very very much that I would never ever want to be a professional athlete. Money isn't that important either.

I didn't see the hit in training camp, but I did see the hit Anthony Smith laid on Housh last year. I can't imagine he hit Hines harder than that.

And a bunch of hits like that is why the Steelers had the most success against the Bungles passing attack anytime since the phrase "Bungles passing attack" didn't inspire guffaws.
