Chief Rost Refuses to Return Kids Skateboards

A few weeks ago a couple of kids skateboarding in Crafton were stopped by Chief Rost and issued citations for disorderly conduct (not sure how that's being disorderly). He also confiscated their skateboards and since then has refused to return them. A father of one of the kids attended a council meeting and requested clarification on how the Chief can continue to hold their skateboards. He raised some good points. If your stopped for DUI and your car is towed, you can pay the tow/impound fee and get the car back.

Should there be a dedicated tax to support the Carnegie fire deparment?

The Carnegie Volunteer Fire Department has suffered losses from Hurricane Ivan in September 2004, has had lackluster fundraising results, dwindling grants and increasing federal regulations. Monaca school board President Mike Halama has resigned less than three weeks before the merger of his district with neighboring Center Area to create the Central Valley School District. Mr. Halama had been an active supporter of the merger but said in a letter that he "cannot and will not be actively involved in a district that substitutes political subterfuge for logic." Student found with eyebrow shaver expelled

I am still trying to figure out why she carried the shaver to school. Her eyebrows should be shaved at home. A school board member was cut while examining it. Hmm, it can be used as a weapon. I feel a 3 day suspension at max, would have been sufficient.

Should the use of Carnegie Towers be changed?

More than 30 people were arrested -- most on drug charges -- during a recent raid at Carnegie Towers, which public officials have decribed as a haven for drugs. Should the state intervene to help Sto-Rox with its financial troubles?

What do you think of the proposed North Fayette trash plan?

North Fayette officials are considering a change from regular garbage collection to a pay-as-you-throw system. In one scenario, each household would be allowed one bag of trash per week for about $32 per quarter, or $128 a year. In a stricter system, residents would pay solely by the bag -about $1.80 to $2.30 each. Either method would force residents to pay ahead for garbage removal by purchasing specially marked trash bags from the municipal building or local grocery store. [read PG story]

What should be done about the rash spreading through Sto-Rox Middle School?

A mysterious rash has struck 11 faculty members and nine students at Sto-Rox Middle School. "It's kind of like poison ivy, poison sumac and hives all at the same time," principal Janell Logue-Belden said. Doctors so far have been baffled by the rash, though several said it was caused by some irritant and was not contagious. What should the school district do about this? [Read PG story.]
