Should Phil Shar continue as basketball coach at West Mifflin?

Should school districts have separate Kennywood picnic days?

Next year, Duquesne City and Clairton City schools will not have their Kennywood school picnics on the same date, at the request of Clairton Superintendent Lucille Abellonio and her district's school board.The request came after disruptions between students from the two districts during their picnics June 18 at Kennywood. Should school districts have separate picnic dates at Kennywood?

Should state lawmakers adhere to the same standards as school administrators for budget deadlines?

With the state budget unresolved, school district officials have turned to other measures to balance their budgets for the new fiscal year, which started July 1. Some have relied on promised federal money to avoid a tax increase, others raised taxes and some dipped into their fund balance in order to meet their June 30 deadline. The state deadline, meanwhile, has passed. Should state lawmakers be held to the same standards as school administrators when it comes to budget deadlines? [Read PG story.]

Proposed changes in the formula to distribute about $5.6 million in Regional Asset District funding for 2010 would take the emphasis off local support and place it more on usage and distress level. For example, it would mean higher funding for the Carnegie Library of McKeesport but lower subsidies for the Mt. Lebanon Public Library. Do you support the changes in county funding for libraries? Is demolishing the Burns Heights housing complex in Duquesne a good idea?

Now, with the help of $60 million in federal stimulus money, the county Housing Authority is ready to begin demolition, followed by construction of more than 150 single-family houses throughout the city. The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission has notified four South Hills communities that it is going forward with a project to coordinate traffic lights along Route 19 in Peters, Upper St. Clair, Bethel Park and Mt.
