What are your Steelers game-day rituals?

Throughout Steeler Nation, fans follow rituals to bring the Steelers good luck. What are your game-day routines? Do you doing anything different during the Super Bowl run than you do for the regular season?

During regular season it's all the Steeler gear, clothes, clappers, horns, terrible towel and drinking out of Steeler cups.  Once we're in the playoffs it's Black-N-Gold EVERYDAY til after we win the Super Bowl.  During the play offs I wear crazy Steeler clothes, light up jewlery, purse and added this year a fiber optic wig for the Super Bowl.

At age 56 (for my birthday) my Grandaughter took us for matching Tattoos, a heart with the Steeler Logo inside. Bought a new car, yep, It's Black and I decorated it with Steeler yellow stripes and Steelers across the windshield.  My Grandchildren are wearing the clothes my boys wore from back in the 70's, some of them actually think I bleed Black-N-Gold.  I could go on and on.............

What a Great City we live in, GO STEELERS!!!

During SB 40, I wore my Steelers hardhat and sat on the edge of my chair as the final minutes ticked away.  My wife likes to tease me because I have a Jerome Bettis football figure that I sometimes hold and rub for good luck.  Hey, it works!  They won.  For this lifelong Steeler fan, it brought tears to my eyes to see Bill Cowher finally win the Super Bowl and bring home that fifth Lombardi.  So this week, I will be wearing my SB 40 champions hat everywhere I go and the Bus action figure will be brought out of retirement to help these Steelers make history.

We recently moved to Bloomington/Normal, Illinois.  Of course, there are Steeler fans all over the world.  We couldn't get the games on our TV so we had to find a restaurant that had televisions to watch the games.  We have two seats out of Three Rivers Stadium.  These seats are in our living room during the entire playoffs and stay there until the Steelers lose!  Our home is decorated both inside and out.  Our offices are decorated.  Our cars are decorated.  GO STEELERS!

To kick off the season this year...and in hopes of bringing the Stillers good luck, I ate "Super Bowl Chicken". It was leftover, and frozen, from Super Bowl XL. My fiance and I had a Super Bowl party in Charleston, WV complete with Primanti style sandwiches, homemade pierogies, kielbassi, Iron City  and grilled "super Bowl Chciken" (grilled in a snowstorm).

Needless to say, the Steelers have a solid fan base in Charleston and everyone had a fantastic time and really enjoyed the Pittsburgh fare, and of course...the "one for the thumb".

First, a Terrible Towel is placed on top of my TV, to let the luck of the Towel soak in. We put on Steeler clothing (choice depends on the team we are playing) and run to the grocery store for game supplies (and to make contact with the thousands of Steeler fans down here in VA). Just before kickoff, I hook up my Sirius radio so I can listen to Bill & Tunch call the game. During the game, I sit on the couch for the offense and stand behind it for the defense (I need room to jump around on the big hits of the D).

The playoffs are pretty much the same except, I break out my "game used" Terrible Towel, to spin and yell with (its kept behind glass in my Pittsburgh room until the playoffs). Also as everyone knows, the Christmas tree is up every year until the Steelers are out of the playoffs or win the Super Bowl (had to get a fake tree after the fire hazard of 1996 super bowl run). I meet my Mom in Breezwood to get Steeler cookies and cases of IC Light and we tailgate in my driveway with other neighbors from western PA (I'm from North Huntingdon and my next door neighbors are from Beaver Falls).

As any old time Stiller fan knows, the Terrible Towel used to be just for the playoffs.    This year, after the loss to Indy, record 6 - 3, and a horrific schedule looming, it became Playoff time for me.   Out came the Terrible Towel and I started wearing my Lambert 58 jersey every game.   I had to go out of town one weekend, made sure those 2 items were in my luggage, and watched the game at a hotel.   They have gone 8 - 1 since I began this year's ritual!

Also, when the game is close and the feeling hits me, when the Steelers are on defense, I cross the fingers on both hands, cross legs, and chant, "Pick, Pick, Pick; Picky Pick Pick".     It works pretty well; see the Townshend pick of Romo, the 2 big picks of Flacco, etc.    I was doing my thing when those happened!

I love being a Steeler fan!

On game day, among other things that must be followed, I recite a Pledge of Allegiance I wrote to remind me what it means to be a Steeler Fan-short for fanatic.

I pledge allegiance to the towel

of the black and gold of the NFL

and to the power for which it stands

    Steeler Nation under Rooney

with pride and dominance to all

    of football!!!!!!

Re: What are your Steelers game-day rituals?

I get allot of skeptics on this one but it is true.  During the SB 40 year the only time I could see the Stillers on TV, they lost.  So I stuck to listening to the games on Sirius and keeping stats from the NFL web site.  As they got into the playoffs I continued.  At one time during the Indy game I turned on the TV to watch, yes Jerome fumbled at the GL.  Needless to say I kept the TV off throughout the rest of the playoffs including the SB.  I will turn it on after a score or big play to see the replay but that's it.  The last two years I got the Sunday ticket, this year I did not and have gone back to the radio.  I plan to do the same thing on Sunday by listening to Billy, Tunch, and the Wolfman.   To add to that I wear the same pants and Steelers t-shirt. The towel and hat only come out if we need a rally.
