    They Made A Valid Point.

Mister Kasper and Coach Brenly made some interesting observations about the Pirates organization that I wholeheartedly agree with.  First, the Pirates weren't making any progress with Jimmy Grabow, Tommy Gorzelanny, Nyjer Morgan, or Jack Wilson.  Secondly, you know it's frustrating and I know you Pirates fans are terribly frustrated.  However, patience and time are of the essence here.  Believe me folks, I've followed the Pirates long enough to know that just when things really look bad for the franchise, good things tend to happen.  Don't ever write the Pirates off.  Believe me.  Better days are ahead.

I hope there are better days ahead of us.  But for now, the Nuttings need to sell the team to an owner who seriously wants to build a winning team in Pittsburgh.  This once proud franchise has been at the bottom of the barrel for the last 17 years.  The Nuttings need to focus on how to stop their newspaper circulation from declining instead of destroying this once proud franchise.  Their fan base will continue to drop just like their newspaper circulation.

Owning a baseball team is not just about winning - unfortunately for us Pirate fans.  As much as we often times forget this, it is also a business.

If you owned your own business would you let it run at a loss?  Call them what you will, but the Nutting's are smart business men, and as much as we may not like it - owning a business is about making a profit.

YOU GOT IT POPS!!!  To Nutting the Pirates are ONLY about making money.

There is another angle however.  Look at the Steeler franchise.  The Rooneys are great owners and figured it out.  Put money into the franchise, make it great, win, keep the fan base happy.  When you subsequently go to sell said franchise the bank will be open--huge money!!!   Imagine the value of the Steelers franchise!!!  AND, the Rooneys did it with class and hence are celebrated in Pittsburgh.  Not despised, like Bobbo!!  He's only in it for what he can steal TODAY!!!

Nutting ONLY wants what he can get out of the Pirates TODAY!!!  He's smart--he makes money--but he's not smart enough to realize (or not rich enough to do it) that if you take a chance here and there and build a winning franchise, the HUGE payoff comes when you sell the franchise and take a HUGE profit to the bank!!  He's an accountant, they only count TODAY'S beans.  Therein lies the problem.
