    Is more commercial development good for McCandless?

    McCandless council has approved a multimillion dollar development containing a Lowe's home improvement store, office buildings and townhomes along McKnight Road south of Cumberland Road. Is this good for McCandless? [Read PG story.]

     Oh yeah, just what McKnightmare road needs, another sprawl. Let's see, there's a Home Depot near Ross Park Mall, another at the Camp Horne location and I believe there's a Lowes in Cranberry. That stretch of woods is the last stretch of unmolested woods along McKnight Road, might as well bulldoze it. I guess we gotta keep up with Cranberry...

     I AGREE. THAT WAS THE LAST GREEN PLACE LEFT.  WITH ALL THE STORES CLOSED GOING DOWN MCKNIGHT ROAD WHY DO WE NEED TO BUILD ANOTHER ONE THAT WILL BE EMPTY SOON.  WHY CAN'T WE LEAVE SOME GREEN.

    This is a good example of why there should be a county wide development office to coordinate development.

    What we have here is an independent community trying to develop land to increase it's tax base at the expense of others.

    The Waterfront development killed Century III in West Mifflin and adversely affected Squirrel Hill business.

    This is the problem when there are 130 separate governments in one county.

        Who was excited about the new developement on Mcknight road?  I have not heard

    one person who lives in McCandless who liked the idea, or even knew about it for that matter.

    They gutted the land.  There is no place left for wildlife.  Why couldn't they use all the

    empty buildings and Malls that closed on McKnight why ravish more land.  It makes me

    sick!  Why didn't the people have a choice.  There is no democracey in McCandless!!

    We all oppose it, hate it, want to replant the land.  I will never shop, eat, watch a movie

    there.  Eighty one acres!!   Oh the best part is I called our State Represenitive to find

    out about it..  They did look into it.  They said McCandless said it was part of the

    "highway beautification project"   What beauty is there? The land was raped!!

    I hope McCandless officals are proud of what they did.  I can't wait to vote them out!

     The problem with McCandless Crossing Is that the developer has nothing vested, the bank financing the project has no retail mixed use experience and will surely be sorry for their blunder, unless we the taxpayers bail them out 10 years from now LOL. The McCandless officials that approved this project should have NEVER been voted into office in the first place.  Allegheny County should be coordinating all of the growth, this would have elimatinated ALL 5 of the HUGE retail blunders over the last 8 years.  Instead we have considerably too much local government and they are runining our county.  People that have no clue are approving plans for projects that make no sense whatsoever.  Retail Is struggling nationwide because many markets are overbuilt.   Mcknight road Is currently in the same state.  The current developer of Mcandless Crossing is counting on Lowes to make this work, he is "planning" a grocery store other retail and various resturants.  The Waterfront Is example 1 of the blunders, Its a bad neighborhood, 3 people have been killed, shoplifing and robbery will surely ruin this project, worse yet the waterfront was built with overgrants, so the developer had NOTHING INVESTED AND all that project did was hurt Century 3 mall.  The Waterfront was a mall that never should have been built, Is struggling and surely wont survive. The Pittsburgh Mills Mall did nothing more than hurt Monroeville Mall.  The Robinson Mall (another underpreforming Pittsburgh mall)  drastically hurt the Beaver Valley Mall and considerably cut traffic at the South Hills Village Mall BUT ruined the Fourt Stuben Mall In Stubenville and affected Ross Park traffic as well.

     Unless one is more than 15 miles from a major shopping mall it's BAD.
