Kelly Frey baby update

Many viewers have been asking for new information on the status of Kelly Frey's baby, Bennett. I've been trying to give Frey space but I also know I have a job to do, and my editors wanted an update as well. I left the WTAE morning news anchor a message on Monday or Tuesday and she called back Wednesday evening with this update:

"He's eating, breathing, growing and doing everything a newborn should. His diagnosis does change. We've had a lot to take in over the last few days: What lies ahead, what doctors think it is. It's not going to be easy. We're taking things day-by-day. We're taking in a lot of different news and what they think is going to happen, but you know what, he's managed to defy everything up to now and even they admit that."

Frey also directed viewers to see new online photos of Bennett and family.

Thank you for posting the update of baby Bennet. I think about them every day. Our family was on the miraculous journey in April.  We had twins born 4 months early. They weighed 1pound 4 oz. and 1 pound 12oz.  Those twins are doing very well and they are at home.  The doctors said that they only had a 5 percent chance. Miracles do happen.

Rob, It must be tough balancing the obvious interest that the community has in this public figure with an instinctive desire not to indrude on a very personal time.

Thanks. It is a balancing act, and not always a comfortable one, but that's just part of the job.
