I know, I know, you're probably wondering, what the heck is "Frisky Dingo"? Well, it was a fantastic, funny show that lasted only two seasons on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. I wrote about the first and the second seasons but never really heard anyone talking about the animated show so I felt alone in my love of the series.
Looks like someone at FX was a fan. Earlier this week the network ordered six episodes of the half-hour "Archer" (pictured, left) from "Dingo" co-creator Adam Reed. I watched an "Archer" clip -- FX wouldn't let us post it -- and this new show has the same look and comedic tone as "Dingo."
The premise: Suave master spy Sterling Archer (voice of Jon Benjamin) -- code name: Duchess -- works at ISIS, an international spy agency run by his domineering mother (voice of Jessica Walter, "Arrested Development"), who has a lovesick secretary (Judy Greer). Aisha Taylor voices Archer's ex-girlfriend who now loves the ISIS comptroller (voice of Chris Parnell, "Saturday Night Live")
"Archer" is slated to air this fall. I can't wait.
WORST SWEEPS PROMO SO FAR: "What's it like to be intimate with a man who's 60 years older than you?" -- a disembodied female reporter's voice (I couldn't place exactly who it was) in a KDKA promo for a report airing tonight on Kristin Georgi, the twentysomething woman who is now divorced from Joe Hardy, founder of 84 Lumber. Total tabloid story that I know WTAE did recently, too. But hey, you can't say the KDKA reporter didn't ask the question everyone is thinking but is too polite to ask.
TV PODCAST: In this week's Tuned In podcast, Post-Gazette online features editor Sharon Eberson and I discuss "Eureka," "Entourage" and the upcoming "Torchwood: Children of Earth" miniseries. Listen or subscribe at post-gazette.com/podcast.
POSTING LATER THIS MORNING: Prime-time Emmy nominations will be posted here as soon as I get them after the 8:35 a.m. announcement.
