When someone declares they are part of "a close circle of seven friends who make this city spin" and then follows it with "we're like the most fabulous circle in Miami," you can bet they are anything but.
Bravo's "Miami Social" (10 tonight) is sort of a "Real Housewives of ..." without housewives but with plenty of rich people who behave badly. Or at least like tools (one guy wears a T-shirt that says "Kiss me, I'm loaded.")
In the premiere, one married couple announces they are divorcing after 13 years of marriage and that divorce gets toasted twice in the hour. Nice.
George remains friendly with his ex-wife, who lives in the same condo building, and often goes to her for advice when his current girlfriend, Lina, gets on his nerves, which seems to be often.
Michael is a gay "celebrity journalist" who's quick (too quick) to insist he's "not a big queen."
"You're an embarrassment to the gay community," Michael is told about 15 minutes into the premiere. He probably earned those stripes 10 minutes earlier.
Ariel, a fashion producer, claims, "I'm not straight but I don't consider myself gay. I'm kind of like a rock star, I go with whatever's hot."
What's not hot evidently includes real people who don't look like models: "Get the fat girl out of my table," Ariel complains at a party. "I don't want her there."
Cast member Hardy is no stranger to reality TV: He starred in the second season of CBS's "Big Brother." Now he's a Miami night club manager and a prominent member of this clique that feels totally manufactured by the show's producers.
One of these desperate-to-be-hip folks claims, "If you don't hang out with the right people, you're not going anywhere." Never has standing pat seemed like such a good idea.
