It's not unusual for reality shows to swipe formats from scripted shows but none is as brazen as Bravo's "NYC Prep" (10 tonight), which is essentially "Gossip Girl" re-cast with a bunch of rich kids playing the fictional characters.
Chief among them, PC, who is the Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) of "NYC Prep." Leering and slightly sinister, he claims to have worked with a Barney's sales associate on fashioning his wardrobe since he was 13.
Sebastian is a little dude who claims proficiency with the chicks: "I hook up with two or three girls in a night. Maybe more." OK, litle man, if you say so.
It's both hilarious and sad to hear these kids brag about how worldly they are as such a young age.
"It's almost like you're an adult by the time you're 16," says one girl, possibly the same one who lives with her brother in Manhattan while their parents live in the Hamptons, visiting their kids just one night a week.
"NYC Prep" is one of those reality shows designed to both show off how the upper crust lives and to make viewers feel superior because they would never allow such permissive behavior among their children.
As TV entertainment, it's as much fun as "Gossip Girl" with slightly more incoherent plotting.
