KDKA names news director

Coleen Marren (WCVB)CBS-owned KDKA named a news director who used to work for CBS rival Hearst (WTAE) in Boston.

Channel 2 general manager Chris Pike announced the hiring of Coleen Marren, who spent more than 8 years as news director at Boston's Hearst-owned WCVB until she departed in December.

Marren replaces John Verrilli, who left KDKA earlier this year to take a job as news director at WBZ and WSBK, the CBS-owned stations in Boston, making this a complete Burgh-Beantown trade.

Prior to WCVB, Marren was news director at WISN in Milwaukee and before that she held the same position at WFXT in Boston and WTIC in Hartford.

She'll begin work at KDKA on July 15.

Coleen Marren Named News Director for Pittsburgh's KDKA-TV

PITTSBURGH, PA - Thursday, June 18, 2009 - Coleen Marren has been named News Director for Pittsburgh's KDKA-TV and WPCW, it was announced today by Christopher Pike, the Vice President and General Manager of the stations.  Marren will assume her new position on Wednesday, July 15, 2009.

Marren joins KDKA-TV and WPCW from WCVB-TV, the award winning ABC affiliate in Boston, Massachusetts, where she had been News Director for eight years.

"I am thrilled to have someone with Coleen's experience and track record joining our team," said Pike.  "I am confident that her leadership and enthusiasm will be a tremendous asset to our stations."

Marren brings more than 18 years of broadcast news management to KDKA-TV and WPCW. She spent eight years as the News Director at WCVB-TV, where she oversaw Boston's #1 rated newscast and #1 rated TV website. Prior to WCVB-TV Marren served as a News Director in Milwaukee and Hartford.  She has also worked at top-rated WLS-TV in Chicago.

Marren's efforts in news management have yielded the stations she has been associated with more than 100 awards including Edward R. Murrow Awards, Emmy Awards,

The Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Political Journalism, and consecutive AP News Station of the Year Awards.
