Press Tour Journal: Entering the 'Dollhouse'

Eliza Dushku stars in "Dollhouse." (Fox)UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. -- Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" (9 p.m. Friday starting Feb. 13) arrives on Fox's schedule in a less than ideal time slot. After announcing in May that "Dollhouse" would air Monday nights, Fox shifted the show to Friday a few months ago, a lower-rated night of television where TV shows often go to die (see: "Lipstick Jungle").

"My initial reaction was mixed. I had a bad experience once on Friday," Whedon said, referring to the short-lived Fox series "Firefly." "But at the same time I knew that was an instinctive reaction to something that happened before."

Whedon said there was a sense of relief and he's happy to have "Dollhouse" paired with "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," which he said shares with "Dollhouse" "a sense of exploring strange mythology and living with the characters within.

"And Friday, when we talked about it, they made it very clear this was a different agenda. This isn't an issue of not promoting us and expecting us to be a huge hit instantly. We'll roll out the 13 episode and let people come to the show and grow with us. It takes the pressure off us. Now I feel more comfortable there than Monday."
