Touchscreen web device makes perfect sense

I've been wanting a simple PC-style device to surf the web quickly and easily in front of the TV or in the kitchen.  Laptops are so-so for this, netbooks are a step in the right direction, but this touchscreen tablet prototype would be perfect.  If it actually makes it into production, that is.

The Techcrunch Tablet prototype sports a 4:3 ratio 12-inch touchscreen, Via Nano processor with 1GB RAM, wireless networking and 4GB storage space for the OS and browser cache.  It also has the now ubiquitous accelerometer so you can rotate the device to view longer web pages without scrolling so much.  Weighing in at three pounds, it's still lighter than an Asus Eee PC.

The Techcrunch people were aiming for a $200 price point but it looks like it might be a bit more than that.  I don't see that as a problem for a well-designed, purpose-built machine like this.

Think of all the uses for this thing.  You could mount one on the kitchen wall, hang one in the garage, and maybe keep a third in the bathroom.  My wife would be pleased with that - the pile of reading material in our bathroom is starting to bend the shelf it sits on.
