Let's have a little headline-writing contest to see if we can beat this one, which came on a wire story today:
Bristol Palin says abstinence best path for teens
NEW YORK (AP) - Unwed mother Bristol Palin said Wednesday that abstinence is a realistic way for teens to avoid unwanted pregnancy - a view not shared by the father of her infant son.
Palin, the 18-year old daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, told ABC's "Good Morning America" that she wishes she'd waited to have sex.
Bristol Palin was in New York Wednesday to help promote National Teen Pregnancy Awareness Day.
To get the headline-writing contest started, I offer the following on a story of my imagining.
Farmer says closing barn door best path to keeping horse inside.
I am sure you can do better. While you are composing, let me shout out a big thank you to John McCain for bringing this family onto the national stage. Whatever would we do without them?
Finally, a note to PghGirl concerning her overheated comment about my last posting. I defend to the death the right of Michael Savage or any other ratbag to speak their (little) minds.
But I am unaware that the British government has made any effort to censor his comments on satellite radio, on TV, in newspapers or in any medium. They merely judged him to be of such odious character that he is not welcome in Britain. In the Internet age, he doesn't have to appear in Britain to make his comments known. Actually, he has no rights in Britain that the British government is obliged to vindicate because he is not a British citizen.
If you, Dear PghGirl, decide not to invite me to your house for dinner because you consider me too ignorant, this is not censorship, this is good taste. Just as an individual has a right not to entertain doubtful characters in his or her home, a government has the same right to exclude oafs from its nation. I say, good for Britain!
