One down, about 40 to go for Britney Spears, including the March 27 show at the Mellon Arena.
Britney opened her "Circus" Tour, her first in five years, in New Orleans Tuesday night appearing like a "sexy ringmaster," according to an Associated Press review.
She played a 90-minute set, consisting mostly of newer material, and her only utterance was a "Thank you, New Orleans" at the end of the show.
According to the review, she "appeared at times to be lip-synching."
Ann Powers in the LA Times wrote that "Her singing was dominated by a backing track" and concluded that "anyone who thinks her lackluster would do well to remember what she really is: a burlesque performer, a carny's dream born a century or so too late..."
Yes, the circus theme applies to Britney more than anyone, but it's also amazing that she would do the very same thing that her former teen-pop rival Christina Aguilera just did.
Did she get a discount on the used props and costumes or something?
Her return drew some heated comments on the Rolling Stone site, where one poster wrote, "So deja-vu...can't dance, can't sing and the outfits are not flattering. Britney Spears is an illusion in itself, if it wasn't for the low IQ and bad taste of her hardcore fans she would be gone a long time ago."
