TV on the Radio is coming! But first the bad news

Every day email pours in for thrilling concert tours.

Among today's entries: Leonard Cohen's first tour in 15 years and the punk rock billing of Rise Against/Rancid.

Both look great. Neither is coming to Pittsburgh - of course.

In our vicinty, Cohen is doing Chicago, Detroit, Columbia, MD, Philadelphia, New York and Boston.

Rise Against/Rancid is doing Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston and... Buffalo!

There's no reason why these tours shouldn't be coming to Pittsburgh. Cohen could play Carnegie Music Hall, one of them; and Rise Against/Rancid could do the back-again tent at Station Square.

Now, on the bright side. We are getting TV on the Radio at Mr. Small's on May 11. Yay.

We also aren't getting Neko Case. She's doing Cleveland (AGAIN!) in April. She was just there in September. This really is getting stupid. I need, like, 3 more oil changes per year now for all the damn miles I put on to see a show!

More bad news, especially if you love the 80s, is that Depeche Mode is also skipping Pittsburgh this summer.  But TV on the Radio coming back to Millvale is great news.  And Morrissey's March 17th show in Oakland is completely sold out (HE WILL SHOW).

Rusty - Seems like all the British bands skip Pittsburgh, Radiohead being the largest example. You never see like the Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand (not that I'm a fan), etc. It's surprising we got British Sea Power.

As for Morrissey, even more siked having heard the new album. Another great one, for sure.

Scott:

Speaking of the British, is there a back story on Eric Clapton and Pittsburgh?  I travelled from Ohio to Three Rivers Stadium to see Clapton my very first time post-Layla (please don't do the math).  But for his last US tours, I've had to travel from Pittsburgh to Cleveland one summer and then Columbus one spring because he skipped us here.  And this summer (reunited with Steve Winwood!), it's back to Columbus again for me.

I think the last time he played here was the tour with Mark Knopfler in his band. I'll have to ask Rich Engler of Ed T if something happened that night that made him never want to come back.

Ah, Mark Knopfler -- another guy I've had to travel out of state to see in this decade (Nashville is acceptable, but Newark NJ and Kettering OH???).

Now, THIS was truly shocking. Among today's releases:

REO SPEEDWAGON * STYX

“CAN’T STOP ROCKIN’ 2009 TOUR”

And the tour is not coming to Pittsburgh! This is exactly the kind of [stuff] we usually get. How does REO and Styx skip Pittsburgh?

Unless there's some big plan for a stadium show later...
