Was there a sight more iconic of the USO than Bob Hope in fatigues, golf club in hand, cracking up U.S. troops all over the world?
How great natural for Stepen Colbert to take up the club on behalf of the troops.
And not just the golf club, and a fitted camo suit, but during last night's "Colbert Report" filmed in Iraq, Colbert allowed Gen. Odierno -- under orders from the Commander in Chief, President Obama -- to give him a buzz cut. I'm not sure if Colbert was more afraid of being in a war zone or the clippers coming at him, but it was a gesture of support that I'm sure the soldiers surrounding him appreciated.
Oh, and Colbert used his trip to entertain the troops as a platform to declare victory in Iraq, even if Gen. Odireno warned that there's much work to be done. At the very least, it was mission accomplished for Colbert. And, as he might say, isn't that what it's all about?
