Neil Patrick Harris irresistible choice for Tonys

Neil Patrick HarrisI'm really looking forward to Neil Patrick Harris as host of the Tony Awards tonight, and not just because of his geek cred for the Web musical phenomenon "Dr. Horrible."

He might bring an audience that others can't, what with Broadway and TV ("How I Met Your Mother") and movies ("Harold and Kumar") credentials. Of coures, Hugh Jackman was Wolverine, and he couldn't deliver an audience against "The Sopranos." But I think the only thing the Tonys have to worry about tonight is the NBA playoffs, and luckily for them, there's no LeBron vs. Kobe. Bryant's Lakers vs. Dwight Howard's Magic isn't the TV match made in basketball heaven that LeBron and Kobe would be. Of course, there's no break-out musical this year, but, as Chris Rawson has been writing, lots of star power in the plays.

A strange Tonys year, indeed. But with NPH at the helm, it should be lots of fun.
