'Watchmen' release: It's a deal

Watchmen scene/AP"Watchmen" will arrive in theaters March 6, as scheduled: Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox settled their nearly yearlong dispute over the movie on Thursday, the studios announced in a joint statement.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed and will remain confidential, The Associated Press reported.

At stake was a movie, based on the Alan Moore-Dave Gibbons graphic novel, that has stoked the excitement (and worries) of "Watchmen" fans and that Warner Bros. claims cost it $150 million to film and market.

"Warner Bros. and Fox, like all 'Watchmen' fans, look forward with great anticipation to this film's March 6 release in theaters," the statement said. As part of the agreement, both sides acknowledged the others were acting in "good faith," although Warner Bros. conceded Fox notified it of its rights before shoot began on the Zack Snyder film.

A long list of directors -- including Darren Aronofsky and Terry Gilliam -- had been attached to "Watchmen" as studios tried to bring the "unfilmable" graphic novel to the screen. The film by Snyder ("300") has the endorsement of illustrator Gibbons, although Moore, who has been disappointed with film versions of his work before, has refused anything to do with the project.
