A new Doctor Who for 2010

Matt Smith by BBCThis one's for Samantha Bennett . . . Sam, I'll miss the Doctor Who talk, especially with a new Who to discuss:

The Guardian of London reports that a relative newcomer, 26-year-old Brit actor Matt Smith (in a BBC America image, right), will replace David Tennant in the millennial "Doctor Who" series that brought back the good Doctor. Christopher Eccleston re-launched the series, and Tennant ran with it. Now comes Smith as Doctor No. 11. The Guardian reports that Smith's TV debut was in the 2006 adaptation of Philip Pullman's "The Ruby in the Smoke," which also starred former "Doctor Who" companion Rose -- Billie Piper.

It's odd to see Smith reported as the youngest Doctor, since of course, the Time Lord is, well, timeless.

After several specials starring Tennant, Smith takes over in October 2010. Until then, for eager fans in Who-ville, it will seem as though time is standing still.
