No more Palin for Tina Fey

By Sharon Eberson / Wednesday, Nov. 5

Sarah Palin left the national political arena in silence on Election Day, grabbing the hand of husband Todd and striding off the stage after Sen. John McCain's gracious concession speach.

So where does that leave Tina Fey?

The spot-on impersonator of the Republican vice presidential candidate is so ready to get on with her life and her prime-time job as the star of "30 Rock," she's saying goodbye to the Palin parody that's been a huge boost to her former employers at "Saturday Night Live." Viewership was way up as President-elect Barack Obama faced off against Sen. John McCain and "SNL" mined comedy from the campaign -- mostly, it was Fey's Palin that caught everyone's attention, don'tcha know.

“I have to retire just because I have to do my day job,” Fey told Jennifer Armstrong at EW.com. “I think [Kristen] Wiig would do a really good job.” As for whether there’ll be an official Palin torch passing, she says, “Maybe we could get a real torch. Or I could give Wiig the Palin wig.”

NBC's Emmy-winning "30 Rock" also enjoyed a ratings boost for its season opener last week, so while it lasted, Palin's run was a win-win for Fey & friends.
