No major issue with Sanchez knee

By Dejan Kovacevic | 5:30 p.m. Wednesday

Freddy Sanchez's injured left knee does not have a major issue, as per the physical just performed by the Giants' doctors. He is considered day to day, and the knee is thought better today than yesterday.

No word on what bearing this will have on San Francisco's sentiment about revisiting a trade with the Pirates.

Sanchez has received permission from the Pirates to spend tomorrow's off-day in Phoenix rather than fly on the team's charter back to Pittsburgh tonight. That way, if there is a trade, he will stay closer to San Francisco, where the Giants are playing this coming weekend.

From , what is it now 3 or 4 threads ago....

@NutHos: A veteran shortstop that can't hit, a DH with bad knees, and the Mariners 24th, 26th, and 28th rated prospects is not.

Of course we sent them a veteran shortstop that can't hit and a head case pitcher who may be great or flame out (but it won't be his fault).

If we had a Cliff Lee we would probably get better return.

Those ants are running a marathon today....

NH, I know I'm tired

From an earlier post, hoping that ants move

Doc, as discussed earlier, if you think the deconstruction ends now, wait till 2010 trade deadline, there is no core.

I think I saw NH last time I was in Vegas, he was sitting next to me, at a dollar machine, saying DAMN, ok this one is a winner

And maybe this is another reason to justify not signing more draft choices, listen to the spin

Great job of actually pitching by Zach, nice

So.... with Sanchez's knee getting the OK, what's the over/under that he's as good as gone?

Sanchez will be traded.  The knee issue will determine if the 2 players we get are A or AA "prospects".

Without the middle infield pairing of Jack and Freddy, I say break it down.  All the way down.  Buh-bye,  Mr. Sanchez.  Later, John Grabow.  See ya, Matt Capps.

You want Zack Duke?  Show me the prospects!  How 'bout Paul Maholm?  Anyone?

For as much as I can understand the trades, I'm at least that much dejected.  We've got an ugly wait ahead of us before things (maybe) get better.

Finally, can they please promote Rudy Owens?!  Let him get innings in Lynchburg, or Altoona, for that matter.  What more does a guy have to do to get a bump?

JHadar

The game almost seems like a secondary issue today, shame we couldn't capitilize on Zachary's outing and get him the W. Hopefully we'll pull this thing out as it heads to 10th scoreless.

I feel much better knowing that the Pirates "didn't have to make these moves."  I'll file that away alongside of "Wilson is a healthy scratch tonight only because we want him to play in tomorrow's day game" (followed today by "we didn't return Wilson's agent's call re his counteroffer because the trade had already been made yesterday afternoon").  With all of that, I'm feeling very confident about the veracity of that "we have no deal in place with the Giants" and that "we're still open to extension talks."

erybill:  haven't you been paying attention?  The FO has to lie to us (so we shoudn't criticize them when they do), and despite this, you also are required to believe everything they tell us or you are (i) not a true Pirate fan and/or (ii) don't know anything about baseball.  ;-)

There is now no reason to not AGGRESSIVELY go after the high upside over slot high school pitchers we drafted. Our payroll next year looks like it could be in the 30 million area, absolutely laughable.

And how does Bud Selig step in and say don't sign someone who may be a future star for an extra 200k because it is over slot when the Yankees bidding against no one but themselves give A-Rod close to 30 million a year? The Pirates , Royals, Reds, etc... should grow a pair and tell Bud to F off. Oh thats right, our President is a protege of Bud's and actually developed the slotting system!! Gee wonder if his prudent financial background in any way influenced Nutjob in the hiring process.

My definitive last word on this mess is why would any front office exec ever join the Pirates unless they had no chance to get a "real major league" job? Answer is , they wouldn't. Hence you get Litltlefield, Opie , Coonely etc.......
