The Pirates have announced the Adam LaRoche trade.
UPDATE 3:08 p.m.: Couple of Neal Huntington quotes off the official release: "Diaz is an intriguing shortstop prospect who projects to play above-average defense with soft hands, good first-step quickness and an above-average throwing arm. He is developing on the offensive side of the baseball, but Argenis quickly becomes the best defensive shortstop prospect in our system." ... And on the other prospect: "Strickland is a young developing right-handed starting pitching prospect with a good frame, solid delivery, clean arm action and an interesting pitch arsenal. He is a quality strike-thrower with a fastball that has averaged as high as 93 mph, with the potential for a major league caliber breaking ball and changeup to complement his fastball."
3:21 p.m.: Huntington just confirmed Steve Pearce will join the team in Phoenix tomorrow. Lastings Milledge is not coming. That means Jeff Salazar stays. Huntington also said he expects Pearce to get "an extended look, something he really hasn't had." More from Huntington soon.
3:28 p.m.: More from Huntington: "I appreciate Adam's work while he was with the Pirates. He is a consummate professional. This was not an easy trade because Adam is a good player who has done a nice job for us, but in turn we got two prospects we feel very good about. ... Diaz is a quality defensive shortstop prospect, and he has some work to do with the bat, but we love his defense and he is going to go to Triple-A for us and play regularly there. ... In Strickland, we get a young, upside pitcher who is the type of pitcher we are looking for out of the draft. He has a good frame, good delivery and athleticism. In our minds, this is a solid baseball trade for both clubs."
