UPDATE 4:27 p.m.: Nothing new on the Jack Wilson/Freddy Sanchez front, and nothing expected today. ... Extra pitchers' fielding practice this afternoon for a second consecutive day. These pitchers have run to first base maybe 20 times each today. ... Andrew McCutchen was getting one-on-one bunt lessons from Tony Beasley, as pictured above. ... Beasley, on getting that runner thrown out at home last night: "You have to take a risk. Hope for a bad throw. That's Tim Lincecum out there, and he's not going to give you much." ... The Delwyn Young/Brandon Moss rotation continues, and bet on it staying that simple for as long as Garrett Jones remains a legend. ... Management was delighted with what it saw of Matt Capps last night. More on that in the Notebook much later tonight. ... Just spent about 20 minutes behind the cage with coach Rich Donnelly, which is a good way to learn about baseball. This was what he had to say about last night: "Everyone's going to talk and write about Garrett, but what won us that game were the two plays Adam LaRoche made. He saved us twice. And, if he didn't, everyone would have been writing about the bad throws that cost us the game." Donnelly had not read my game article from this morning, which detailed LaRoche's contributions.
4:56 p.m.: Outfielder Kyle Morgan was promoted from short-season State College to low Class A West Virginia. This is his official page.
6:44 p.m.: The tarp is on the field, and the game will be delayed. But it will not be by much. There is a big Charlie Brown cloud over the stadium, and a cursory glance to the west is enough to see this will be really brief.
6:49 p.m.: Rain just stopped. Big-time rainbow over Downtown. Below is a pic ...

6:56 p.m.: New first pitch time is 7:15.
8:29 p.m.: The umpire trembles at the first sight of a solitary cloud, and we have another rain delay. Fans are booing heavily.
8:30 p.m.: Tarp goes halfway on, then grounds crew pulls it back upon realizing ... hey, there is no more rain. Crowd cheers.
8:31 p.m.: An official of the Pirates comes onto the field and orders them to put it all the way on. Crowd boos even louder.
8:33 p.m.: Not more than three drops of rain are falling, and sunshine is blanketing Downtown. But the grounds crew remains standing at the edge of the tarp, arms folded, as some in the crowd continue to taunt.
8:34 p.m.: That same Pirates official huddles with the grounds crew chief and another guy, presumably to discuss whether or not it is raining. Upon ruminating it a little further, they decide that it is not and order the tarp back off. Mock cheers.
8:37 p.m.: The umpires, currently safe from the Terrible Cloud in their locker room, still have not returned.
8:39 p.m.: The umpires bravely return to the field.
8:41 p.m.: Once they clean up all the bodies and other scattered debris from nearby skyscrapers, the game should resume imminently.
