Lincoln promoted to Indianapolis

By Dejan Kovacevic | 2:16 a.m. Sunday

DENVER -- The Pirates have promoted their top pitching prospect, Brad Lincoln, to Class AAA Indianapolis from Class AA Altoona.

He will join the rotation there immediately.

Lincoln, 23, was 1-5 but with a 2.28 ERA for the Curve, with 65 strikeouts and 18 walks. He was informed of the promotion after the team's 4-0 victory against visiting Connecticut last night.

This is Lincoln's official page.

Sure, Dejan reports it now and everyone will see it, but let the record show I had this story a full 35 minutes earlier.

Pats on the back JNN..........haha..........you can't trump Dejan on anything Buccos!

Lincoln will probably start 2010 in the Burgh and help them make the playoffs in 2011.

As Lincoln last pitched on Thursday...I look for him to probably get a start on Tuesday for Indy.

It also looks like Moss and Morgan got the memo. If you don't start producing...we have someone to play there.

BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE BLOG

As more people join this  community a number of questions arise.  Here are some clarifications.

1) Many of us who post here treat this as a discussion forum, not as a traditional blog.  Dejan's post sets the table but we respond to each other more than we respond to specifics of Dejan's post.

2) We always start the day with two threads--morning links and other stuff.  Morning links is primarily baseball discussion and Other Stuff is non baseball.

3) When some posts "OS" they are referring to the "Other Stuff" thread.

4)  Throughout the day, as stories break, Dejan will upload a new thread.  When you see the term "ants marching"  that simply means a new thread has been posted and most of the posters move to the new thread and start posting there.   Going to a new thread helps keep things flowing as we often have over 100 or even 200 posts on the original thread.

5) Instructions for uploading an avatar can be found by clicking my name, BK's name, or Mad's name.  We all have the instructions on our announcements page.  Many find avatars make following the posts easier.  The photo must be on your computer and the avatar will not appear instantly.

6)  Sign in w/ Nurse Cratchet for your straight jacket, meds, and room assignment

7)  As Dejan reminded us the other day, this thread is for baseball talk and the OS is for other topics

8)  Please read the 'guide to commenting' before you post" A link to the guide to commenting on the blog is located on the left near the top of the page in the section labeled  "Authors"

9) Do not post entire articles from other sources. - It is an act of illegal copyright infringement.   Just post links to the story

I surely left something out but hopefully covered the basics

Did the outfield do any good last night? 8 for 14 (.571),  6 rbi and a couple of defensive gems.  Why do I suspect that Nyjer and Brandon will be getting a rest today?

DK.

That one off photo of the top of our order is poster material.  Nice.  Y'Oughtta run that past someone in the brass and they oughtta sell those.  Nice shot.  Good composition.  And two very likable baseball players.

On other matters, it is good to see B.Moss having a couple good games at the plate.  The kid has just got to turn it on.  Now if we could get AdLa to spring to life, we might be able to survive until the return of Doumit.

We've lost a couple series in a row and I'm not likin' it.  Still, there are flashes around this team that are positive.  More than ever, the PBC has to get on a little streak here.  Got to start winning some consecutive games and keep it rolling.  Might be too much to ask with as little power as we have, but, heck, watching the cheetah and the jaguire at the top of the lineup... both at the plate and in the field... is a heckuva lotta fun.

... "Oh, my stars!  You Monstars must lead such INteresting lives...

Good morning, all.  I've been out of town for a few days - last trip to NYC for awhile.  I can report that Mets and Yankees fans are not happy w/ their teams, as heard on WFAN on the way to and from.  The Yankees had just lost to the Nats.  What fun!  Schadenfreude!

Happy Father's Day to all!  Enjoy the day.

I arrived home last night, weary from the drive, hoping for a good game to watch.  That wore me out even further.  Agonizing defeat!  The Bucs should have won that game.  I can't remember a game where one reliever after another game up HRs.  UGH!

But today is another day.  Another game.  Hoping for better.  Enjoy.

Ok we really need to salvage this road trip with a win today. 1-5 would not be good for morale (even though playing the 2 most difficult places probably in all baseball).

And Please don't tell me Pearce is sitting again today. We did not bring up one of the hottest hitters in AAA to ride our bench... did we? This would be the stupidest thing I've ever heard...

Good Morning, Curious George, JAL, Ron Burg, Joey Bats, Wabbit, Cullen, Roxtar, Thunder and ...

Aye, Aye, Cap'n! Welcome home, and as ye say, raise the mast, setting sails on a brand new day, forgetting last night's horrid loss ... we're still on a course charted with perpetual wins - highlighted by perpetual bounty, returning ugly favors like what was done to us last night ... it WILL happen, sooner than later.

And Alex300, from the prior thread. Welcome to the Asylum! Great post of the YT, comparing Andrew's speed to that of Dion Sanders. From whence dost thou broadcast? Are you in the Atlanta area? I was raised in NC, and was a Braves fan for years, then I moved to Bedford, PA, where I became a Pirates fan ... in East Texas now, though, where the weather's hot and the necks are good and red.

For instructions on how to upload an avatar to replace your gray man, click on JAL's handle above. He has detailed instructions on his profile.

Welcome, Brad Lincoln!

And I guess, based on DK's report about Craig Monroe, he won't be offered a spot in Indy!

Great to see some of the bats come alive last night.  It is games like last night that give reason to starting & sticking with Moss.  Nyjer has to bunt more, especially if McCutch i on base.

Liked what I saw from Charlie Morgan.

Awful game by the bullpen.  Those pitch locations by Grabow and Chavez were just terrible. That cannot happen.

Did anyone else that watched the game get the impression that John Wehner was blaming Jaramillo for the home run Grabow gave up?  It sounded to me that he blamed JJ for trying to go inside to a right handed hitter...something that Grabow doesn't do very much.  That is pathetic.  It was all Grabow's fault.

The pitch by Grabow...

No excuses. Even if JJ wanted to him to come inside, he didn't. That ball was thigh-high dead red middle of the plate. Grabow is lucky it wasn't a five-run homer.

On last nights game'

We have won games like this, last night we lost, the Rockies are playing out of their #$$%$%##. We could have scored 20 runs and we still would have lost.

And DK, I totally disagree with losing teams lose these kinds of games, (referring to the Pirates) the Pirates played an outstanding ballgame, no  one is beating the Rockies these days, they will cool off.

We can take our final loss today and get out of town.

Cleveland will be due to win a few and they can hit, will be able to stand toe to toe with them? I don't know.

Come on now we all know it's the JR way.  Hot hitting gets benched and all ya know.  Story says he will ride the pine for awhile. So don't expect him on the field anytime soon much to our chagrin.

Reposted from a now defunct thread:

A very interesting stat on McCutchen that I have rarely seen on other players (and I know its only 16 games into his MLB days): Andrew has 4 triples and 3 doubles. I like this because it shows he is sprinting out of the box with 100% hustle. How many times have you watched replays of "major league doubles" that you you thought if they had been running hard out of the box they could have a had a triple? That is exactly  what McCutchen does and obviously Monroe didn't do.

On the "Why bring Pearce up to sit" question, this may work a bit better. It gets him acclimated to the team again, to the clubhouse atmosphere, to working with  the coaches a bit before being thrust into the immediate spotlight. McCutchen was but I really think we are watching an ELITE player that can handle almost anything.

leadoff wrote re: Lincoln promoted to Indianapolis

McCutchen's catch,

I saw him go back on a ball in ST just like he did last night, he did not catch it, but the speed that he goes back on a ball is rare.

That day in ST I thought, he looks as good as Clemente when he came up to the Pirates, then I thought, I must be nuts. After last night, I am not so sure I was nuts, he looks a lot better than Clemente when Clemente came up, but Clemente did nothing but get better and better and the rest was history.

My only point about Pearce is this: Benching a person is the quickest way to cool off someone who is hot at the plate.

Good morning asylum, glad to see Lincoln getting the call up to AAA. Last night was a painful painful game to loose, and very uncommon bad outings from Burnett, Grabow, and Chavez were painful. Was very happy though with the outing from Morton, Morgan, and yes even the man i criticize like no other Moss. But knowing JR we'll probably see Pearce in RF today not Moss even though Moss is something like 5 for his last 8. Hopefully Paul can rebound today and we can get back on the winning track, the worst part about loosing lately is that the Brewers have been loosing too so we haven't lost ground but we had a chance to make up ground and didn't.

Cubs  5-5

Reds 4-6

Anyone in the division go on a streak like the Rockies and gthey would move to 1st.

My gf and I saw him pitch Saturday night in Altoona and the boy brings some heat....mid-90's all night. of course, some, not all of the other players there basically suck thus his 1-5 record. If your ever in Altoona and the Curve is in town I recommend catching a game. When we go we usually sit in what would be lexus seating in PNC (section 110 row 1) and we paid 10 bucks each! Besides theres a rollercoaster in right field....how cools that!
