Usually, when a team loses a bunch of games in a row and the owner, GM and a bunch of other baseball brass are by the cage for batting practice, it tends to be an ominous sign.
Not this one.
Bob Nutting, Frank Coonelly, Neal Huntington, scouting director Greg Smith, development director Kyle Stark and others gathered in all-day meetings to discuss the upcoming draft, then just finished off the day by spending some time out in the sun taking in the final 15 minutes of BP. No big deal.
Nutting did have a chat with John Russell for a few minutes, then a couple other coaches, but that was about it.
As you will see from the game story below, Nutting is not in panic mode.
Linkage to the general coverage ...
> No. 1 of what Zach Duke hopefully predicted will be a "15- to 20-game winning streak" is here. Duke was really good, by the way, for those who did not attend the game. Listen to this reply when Tony La Russa was asked about the Cardinals' offense: "You saw Duke pitching, right?"
> Audio of Nutting on the streak.
> Audio of Brandon Moss, who must have had an out-of-body experience or something. How else to explain the difference between this player and the one flailing in New York?
> The box score.
> The Notebook is here. Coonelly addresses the matter of Freddy Sanchez's contract clause and his recent benchings. He was not happy to have the issue raised.
> Remember, Q&A is out tomorrow. Those who are late do not get fruit cup.
And from other realms ...
> From MLB.com, video highlights from last night.
> Catch up with the Cardinals at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
