It's closing end on the anniversary of Deon's murder. Naturely, I'm choked up. And I am again confronted with the horror of this day. I would like to thank both "A Concerned Citizen" and "Homewood 4 Life" for your thoughts, prayers and your love. Elwin, my thanks to you as well for creating this place where those of us who are sadden by this present condition of our community can share our thoughts. I too see a brighter day, a better Homewood. I just pray that we live to see it through...

I wanted to inform you that Roland & Bethany Criswell, owner of Coston's Funeral Home will be hosted a Tribute to MJ on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009. Please call to RSVP. I'm sure that a big turnout is expected.

As soon as I resolve some technical issues, I'll share news about a community-driven effort by residents of Race Street.

Any other thoughts, anyone?

At the risk of sounding like a downer, if the residents don't want it, what's the use? However, GETTING the residents to pitch in and toss around ideas is part of the struggle too, I suppose.

When Dwelling House CEO John Haines spoke at Friday's rally, he told the supporters gathered there that adding to their present accounts or opening new ones would only increase Dwelling House's liability. I wish they had said that before I made my deposit last Monday, but oh well - that's what happens when zeal exceeds information.

He reiterated the point for today's story (www.post-gazette.com/.../979809-28.stm) by Tim Grant, which gives more background on how the situation at Dwelling House developed, and how it is being handled.

That said, going around Oakland I see plenty of black people as well. Pittsburgh's diversity issues are pretty new to me, but just as an outsider, in general, I see lots of different people wherever I go (well, maybe minus Shadyside or Squirrel Hill...) compared to where I grew up in Ohio (and it wasn't a small town either...I just don't feel like revealing that info!!).
