Okay, back to earth (G-20, pt. 2)

Having said all that, anyone working for Homewood's positive exposure during the G20 must also be realistic. Recognize, for example, that East Liberty has Jamaican and Ethiopian restaurants, and Homewood doesn't.

And yes, the person writing about diversity made a darn good point.

I remember a visitor to Pittsburgh once remarking on the fact that from the time he landed at the airport to the time he got out of his cab downtown, he didn't see any black people.

What will dignitaries and journalists from around the world notice?

(Speaking of cabs, could we PLEASE get Pittsburgh's cab service in shape by September?)

On a general note, I wanted to say that I really appreciate your observations and enjoy reading your blog.

Also, as someone who moved to Pittsburgh from Ohio....maybe it's the neighborhood I live in, maybe it's b/c I live in the city proper, but I see plenty of black people here compared to where I used to live.  Honestly, every time I go back home (to Ohio), I wonder where all the black people are.

I guess it all depends on the route you're taking from the airport.

Thanks for posting. Now you know I have to ask, what neighborhood do you live in?

I am really excited about Pittsburgh hosting the G20 Economy Summit on Sept 24th & 25th.  If any of those Homewood organizations decide to host an event, I would like to volunteer my services. If you receive any information on volunteers needed, please contact me. Any assistant needed, I would like to be involved.

Thanks, Naomi Wood

Wow, Naomi; thanks for making that offer. Does anyone from any Homewood organizations want to take her up on this, or should I just start keeping my own list?

Heh, I knew that question was coming.  In East Liberty, kind of up in the northern end.  :D

That said, going around Oakland I see plenty of black people as well.  Pittsburgh's diversity issues are pretty new to me, but just as an outsider, in general, I see lots of different people wherever I go (well, maybe minus Shadyside or Squirrel Hill...) compared to where I grew up in Ohio (and it wasn't a small town either...I just don't feel like revealing that info!!).
