Bob Davie needs to brush up on his John Denver songs

By Colin Dunlap | 12:15 a.m. Monday

From what I have heard, Bob Davie -- the former Notre Dame coach who works for ESPN -- is a good guy. He's from western Pennsylvania, so I can believe it, as most westerns Pennsylvanian are good people.

One thing, though, Davie isn't on the up-and-up when it comes to John Denver songs.

Watch the very end of this clip from the closing moments of WVU's victory in the Backyard Brawl Friday night against Pitt.

Is it me, or did he say the crowd was going the sing "Rocky Mountain High" confusing it with the Mountaineer Field staple "Country Roads"

Bob Davies may not be up on his music but thought he did a very good job analyzing the game.

I find him much more credible than many other analysts ... especially that guy that did the Missouri - KU game the other day when he criticized KU's strategy of passing with 3 minutes left from inside the 5 yard line.  If that analust would have done the math, he would have know that KU would have had to punt from it own endzone with about a minute and ahalf left, thus giving Missouri an easy chance for a tying FG.  I will argue with anyone that KU's strategy was correct, especially the way they play defense ... they just didn't execute.

I agree with you on the KU game. You had to put it in the air, no question.

If Mangino's team hits a TE drag there across the middle for 8 yards, they look like geniuses.

Pretty funny.  I was at the game, so I didn't hear any of this live.  Sounds like Bob caught himself after "Rocky Mountain...", realizing that he didn't have the right title.  Can't blame him., he's not from WV or WVU.  What a thrill, though, hearing the crowd's joyous reaction to the FG!

I was celebrating the victory in my living room when I heard Davie botch the song title. The wife and I looked at each other like "what did he just say?" That being said, it wasn't that long ago that Davie was their lead commentator.  He is every bit as good as Blackledge and Herbstreit. My only complaint on the ESPN coverage was that they dwelled on the 2007 game for way too long.

Did anyone else notice the non-call on the Tandy INT when Pinkston blatantly tripped Tandy to tackle him? WVU could have been on the Pitt 25 instead of the 40.

Joggin George Hendrick (I presume),

I did notice the trip on the interception ... although in fairness, I also thought Baldwin's arm was held on an incompletion into the endzone early in the 4th quarter .. Pitt then kicked a FG.

All in all, I thought it was a well-refereed game, especially when considering how many bad calls we have been seeing in many other important games this year ... Big East and otherwise.

Nice game, wish I had been there but sold my tickets since my daughters were coming home for the holiday. I was at the 17-14 victory over Pitt in 1975 and can only imagine the same electricity in the air at this game.

I've never cared much for Davie, probably because of his ND ties.  I always listen to the MSN radio broadcast during the games when I'm not there (and usually when I am), but I have heard from several WVU fans that he was highly critical of the fans, kept harping on the program dropping off since RR left, and generally negative towards WVU during the game.  Like I said, didn't hear it for myself, but multiple people mentioned it to me.
