Choppers over river for Russell Crowe movie

The two adults, two children in strollers and one golden retriever were all set to jog across the Clemente Bridge when they were stopped on the Downtown side, not because of construction but moviemaking.

Not long after, a police officer gave chase ... after a bicyclist who blithely started across and into the shot.  The exasperated cop grabbed the back wheel in a scene that looked like a cartoon but he got his man and his bike.

"The Next Three Days," the Paul Haggis movie starring Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Banks (not in evidence today), was filming all along the river. Cars were crossing the bridge from the North Side to Fort Duquesne Boulevard as two helicopters (in photo above, with one visible in picture below) swooped and swirled overhead.

It looked as if a police chase were under way, which might dovetail with the story of a woman accused of murder and the husband who will do anything to free her.

It was hot, it was slightly chaotic and it was noisy but that didn't stop people from stopping to look - one woman even had binoculars while others settled for old-fashioned cameras or phones.

Tires squealed as drivers threw their vehicles into reverse and returned to position on the bridge, pedestrians groused or were gracious about not walking across (although a couple of folks slipped through unnoticed) and cars confused by the disruption in the traffic pattern choked the intersections.

Earlier today, the Armstrong Tunnels and Tenth Street Bridge were closed and the Clemente, Seventh and Ninth Street bridges will be closed until 2 p.m.
