Barack Obama, socialist and terrorist

Tom Waseleski

I hear from readers all the time. As you might suspect, they usually call when they're angry about something. Today I took a flurry of calls about an unlikely subject, the cartoon that runs every Saturday on the PG oped page, THIS MODERN WORLD by Tom Tomorrow.

For eight years the artist's pen has skewered many members of the Bush administration, in part because they've made much of the news in the country. With the election of Barack Obama, Tom Tomorrow turned his attention to the president-elect in Saturday's cartoon.  We find the cartoonist in high satiric form, with cartoon frames that show Obama declaring the U.S. a socialist Muslim dictatorship, appointing Bill Ayers to a government post and requiring Americans to memorize the sermons of Jeremiah Wright.

All in good fun, if you ask me. But it was too much for the Obama fans who called the PG. If there's one thing anyone hates to do, it's having to explain a joke. I tried to do that for our readers, but I'm not sure I changed any  minds. Check out the cartoon and let me know what you think.
