More on Biden-Palin

Tom Waseleski

What's amazing in the day-after buzz on the debate is that Palin partisans pretty much agree that she did "well enough" against Biden. But well enough doesn't cut it in the vice president's chair, and Americans deserve better than "well enough" from a possible successor to the president.

If our children wake up one day, 20 or 30 years from now, to find their country a second-rate power compromised by the bullies of the world, they should look back on the days when the average American wanted a president (or vice president) who is "just like me."  Been there, done that, back in 2000.

I'm sorry, but I want a president who is much better than me, much smarter than me and much more experienced than me. Sarah Palin, as a VP to John McCain -- with his age and health history -- doesn't give me that feeling.

I was not, initially, ebullient about Obama's running mate, but the Palin-Biden debate proved me a fool.

I am now convinced Obama will be elected president because a crafty veteran of many political campaigns realized Sarah Palin was a primed political powder keg that could be ignited by condescension.

Humble pie is a dish Joe detests, but his political instincts suppressed his ego, and he came across as a nice guy who respected and appreciated his opponent.

I thought the debate was a tie. Both sides were happy with the outcome and that keeps Obama firmly in the lead.

Last night we witnessed a political masterpiece so sly and subtle that the lioness has yet to miss her fangs and claws.

Palin and her Husband and thier family lie what she preaches!  Out of all the canidates i know she like me sits down at the beginning of the week and tries to figure out how she is going to have enough money to pay the people that work for her while at the same time making sure she has enough money for gas to get the kids to school and thier after school activities, enough for food and any unexpected extra!  Obama talks a lot but the record is clear he did nothing to stop freddis and fannie from giving out bad loans!  It is these democratic handout prgrams that have messed up the economy!  All these super smart people not like me have messed me up becuase they have never lived my life.  I am a lawyer, I have five kids and my own business!  I am black female, I owe stident loans and i went to state college and law school.  According to america people like me that mange not to go bankrupt and provide jobs to other people are not SMART enough to run this country!  I was smart enough not to take one of those stupid loans for a house and I was smart enough to recognize that a lot of the peole around me could not afford those houses are the credit card debit they were runnning up!  Now you want to elect obama who went tonot only a private University and Law school, but a private high school and he tells you he understands middle America while calling you dumb!  politics are so dumb and year after year we all keep falling for the same stuff!  I will take my chances with the girl!  She is like me and i think I am ok!  Maybe people need to stop asking for government to stop solving all thier problems.

Dear Ms. Jurist,

I applaud your level of financial sophistication and restraint! If more American's eschewed unneccessary debt, our economy would not be on the brink of collapse.

I admire Gov. Palin. She has the courage to stand behind her convictions and endure unfair scrutiny and criticism because her traditional values offend many ultra-liberals. She is intelligent, successful and charismatic.

An Ivy League education is a wonderful thing, but "ordinary colleges and universities" produce exceptional thinkers who thirst for the

"truth" that only self-taught and sought enlightenment can bring.

I am not against McCain and Palin; I am against the conservative Republican platform they embrace. America needs to reborn and Obama epitomizes change: his ideas; his youth; his ethinicity!

We sit on the cusp of destiny: Salvation or damnation beckons; I'll bet my future on Obama and pray I've made the best choice! Who knows what the future will bring?

I think cg5570 needs to look a little more closely at Sarah Palin. I don't think the governor and the First Dude sit around the kitchen table at the start of each week, wondering how they're going to pay for gas or food.

The McCain campaign released the Palin family financial records yesterday and guess what? They're worth more than $1 million. (Here's The New York Times story:  www.nytimes.com/.../04palin.html)

I'm sure the talk around the kitchen table at their $550,000 house is a little different than at the average American's.
