FF Football League Trade 11/24/2009

Warbirds gets Reggie Wayne, Santonio Holmes, Cadillac Williams:
Manor Beasts gets Matt Forte, DeSean Jackson, Hakeem Nicks:
Reggie Wayne is without question Peyton Manning's number one target and when you're the top receiver for the top QB in football, life is good.  Santonio Holmes' career has really taken off since becoming the SB XLIII MVP and is having a career year.  Having only played in 10 games since 2006, Cadillac has played in 10 this year for the struggling Bucs.  This isn't the year Matt Forte was envisioning coming into the season as Jay Cutler and the Bears offensive line isn't very good and Forte has fallen into a sophomore slump.  DeSean Jackson is having a strong second year and is quickly turning into the big play threat the Eagles have been craving.  Hakeem Nicks is having an outstanding rookie year playing a position that rookies don't usually do well in.

Trade Analysis:

Great trade for Warbirds.  Reggie Wayne is by far the best player in this deal and as an added bonus he gets the Steelers top receiver Santonio Holmes.  Yeah, he only has one TD, but he's always around 100 yards and the Steelers have some softies coming up that Holmes can light up.  Cadillac Williams was a thrown in player that could be successful in a couple spot starts, but I don't see much value in Bucs players.

Manor Beasts, in my opinion, has made some questionable move this year and this is another one.  Matt Forte coming into the year was a top five RB, but 10 games into the season, I don't think he would even be in my top 15.  The Bears passing game is bad, the offensive line is bad and Forte isn't showing the explosiveness that he had last year.  DeSean Jackson is the best player he got in return and even though he's a young star on the rise, he's nowhere near the level of a Reggie Wayne.  Hakeem Nicks will be a great receiver someday but it'll be another year or two before he's up to Santonio Holmes' level.

For both hockey and football, the trades in our leagues have been been pretty even, but this one is all Warbirds.  He gets two great receivers in exchange for a first round bust and two WRs that are simply not as good as Wayne and Holmes.  Big win for the first place Warbirds.

Let's hear from you guys.  What won it?

This is why you have a trade deadline. I am willing to bet there were cash considerations in this one sided deal.

This was an at the deadline deal.

I had been making fair and unfair(to either side) trade offers to about everyone in the league up to the trade deadline.  I like to spin the wheel around this time of year if I can.

The last offer I had made was Forte, Jackson and Nicks for Holmes and Wayne.  The Manor Beasts countered by adding Cadillac into the mix.

I figured I can always just drop the TB runner if I wanted.  I didn't hesitate in accepting the offer.   Though I love the thought of the cash consideration offers, I couldn't bring myself to that.  Let alone giving consent to how the Penguins and Pirates have in the past(Pens) and since since the 90's(Effin Pirates).

I know I won the trade, on paper at least.  We'll see how this all plays out.  Last year I had the misfortune of trading Favre the week before he threw 6 touchdowns;  though I got Andre Johnson for him.  That move won a championship last year.  All I can hope is that these last two moves will help.

Warbirds is making a serious run for the finish. A sprint, really.

Good for him. Wayne is a serious player. Santonio is also a help and Forte's schedule is atrocious, so yeah, Warbirds trimmed fat and added good players.

But, if the Colts end up clinching early, Wayne will be significantly less valuable, and that's something I'm not sure was taken into consideration.

Holmes should retain his value, and he's usually a better second-half player.

Losing Jackson could hurt, though. He's usually good for a couple big pass plays and sometimes gets TDs, too. 100-yard games are a big deal in this league, so missing out on that 5 bonus points could be huge if Wayne ends up sitting for the last two weeks of the season.

Warbirds probably won this deal, but Manor Beasts are actually a lot closer in this trade than it seems.

Good luck with Forte, though.

Actually, The end of the season was taken into consideration with the trade for Wayne.  It is quite possible that the Colts clinch home field throughout, making the whole Indianapolis offense a huge risk.  Losing Wayne and Clark for weeks 15-17 could be a huge downfall for my team.

The biggest reservation for me was having two receiving threats from the same team.

I should be pretty OK in the final weeks of the season as I have four decent WR's on teams that either won't get to, or will have to fight to make the playoffs in D. Bowe after he comes back from suspension, M. Sims-Walker, S. Holmes and D. Hester.  Add that to the lethal combination of T. Jones, S. Jackson, S. Slaton and I think I'll be able to at least keep pace the rest of the season.

I will probably have to scramble for a TE in the last couple of weeks as Clark more than likely will be benched at least partially.
