For us Josh Hamilton owners, this season just got a whole lot tougher for us. In all likelihood you used a high draft pick on him and now he's headed back to the DL for the second time this year. Unfortunately, the bad news doesn't stop there. Hamilton will be out for at least 2 weeks with "an abdominal strain that effectively is a form of a sports hernia". After the 2 weeks, his injury could still require surgery that would put him out for the next two months. If he's out for two months, this could be a killer for a lot of fantasy teams.
Not that anyone on waivers is a suitable replacement for him, but now you can have some fun. Take a chance on someone who's swinging a hot bat right now. Maybe it'll stick. Scott Hairston of the Padres may not be a bad option right now. He's quietly been a solid producer all season. Aaron Rowand who has been a good hitter when given the chance, is looking good with the bat right now in San Francisco. A couple guys I mentioned earlier in the week, Gary Sheffield and Michael Cuddyer are available in at least 50% of ESPN leagues. Its an ugly situation, but its manageable. I had Hamilton and Manny Ramirez in my outfield to start the season, so it could always be worse.
