Trade Deadline Winners/Losers

Biggest Winners

Olli Jokinen - The big winner yesterday on deadline day was Olli Jokinen.  He'll finally play in a city that actually cares about hockey and will most likely play in the playoffs for the first time ever.  Not only is he in a better environment (which is funny because I used to refer to Calgary as "Hockey Jail") but he's in a much better situation.  He won't be the focal point of the offense and there's plenty of offensive depth around him.  Before this season, Jokinen scored over 30 goals in 4 of the last 5 seasons.  Just imagine how well he'll perform with other offensive weapons around him.  Jokinen and his owners were without a doubt the biggest winners on trade deadline day.

Bill Guerin - Maybe I'm a little biased here, but when you take a player like Guerin, rescue him from the Islanders and put him on a line with Sidney Crosby, you have a lot going for you.  I think a Crosby, Guerin, Kunitz line would be the best line Crosby has ever played on in the NHL.  Even though its been awhile since Guerin looked like an All Star, I think Sid will re-ignite this faded star and make him valuable contributor for the remainder of the season.

Patrick O'Sullivan - Ohhhh how I wish the Pens could've swung a deal for O'Sullivan.  Great deal for the Oilers who appear to be building a team that will simply just overwhelm you with offense.  O'Sullivan is a good piece to their puzzle and it should pay off big time for his owners.

Daniel Carcillo - Those of you that thought Carcillo was losing his edge because his PIM numbers are down, think again.  Moving the Flyers will be like throwing gasoline on fire that almost went out.  He should be the league leader in PIM for years to come and he's not bad in the point production either.  He has decent speed and can rack up some points as opposed to some goons go entire seasons without scoring a goal.

Mark Recchi - Odds are you gave up on Recchi long ago, but now on the Bruins, he's worth a look.  The Bruins are second in the league in goals scored and a move like this should really jump start his numbers.

Biggest Losers

Justin Williams - Leading our biggest losers list (and I'm not talking about the weight loss show either) is Williams.  He's been having trouble getting back into goal scoring form and now heads to LA to a team that likes to play defense.  If you were hoping he'd snap out of this funk, sorry, but its not happening anytime soon.

Nik Antropov - The Rangers needed scoring help so they reach out and pick up a under achieving "power forward" in Antropov.  Yeah, that'll fix it.  Great players have gone to NY and melted under the big lights of Madison Square Garden. Kovalev, Carter, Lindros, Robitalle, Nedved, just to name a few.  Now a struggling Antropov is going to be counted on for an increase in scoring.  This is like trying to squeeze orange juice out of an apple.

Dominic Moore - He had a good thing going on in Toronto.  Too bad they had to go mess it all up by trading him.  I'm not really sure where the Sabres intend on playing Moore in their lineup, but I can tell you right now, his production won't be as good as its been lately.

Matthew Lombardi - He showed a lot of promise in Calgary when he played on the top line, but now he's in Phoenix and if Olli Jokinen couldn't get it done there, what chance does Lombardi have?

Antoine Vermette - The first deal of the day was under achieving winger Antoine Vermette getting sent to the offense starved Blue Jackets.  Now he can wear another teams colors while showing off his inability to score points.
