About the Rangers - 11-30-09

A preview of the Rangers.

When and where: 7 p.m., Madison Square Garden.

TV: FSN Pittsburgh, MSG.

Record: 13-12-1, 27 points. The Rangers are in 10th place in the Eastern Conference and fourth place in the Atlantic Division.

Leading Scorer: Marian Gaborik 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists).

Last Game: 8-3 road loss to the Penguins, Saturday. Sidney Crosby had three goals and two assists.

Last Game against the Penguins: Ditto.

Rangers Player We Would Bet Money On Scoring: We're playing it safe and sticking with Gaborik. He had two assists in Saturday's game.

Ex-Penguins on the Rangers: Rick Kehoe, professional scout; Michal Rozsival, D; Glen Sather general manager.

Ex-Rangers on the Penguins: Phil Bourque, broadcaster; Pascal Dupuis, RW; Bob Errey, broadcaster; Tony Granato, assistant coach; Kevin Stevens, professional scout.

Useless Rangers Trivia Vaguely Related to the Penguins: Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist (above) is the only goaltender to have earned at least one shutout against the Penguins in each of the previous two seasons. (That one might not be so useless afterall.)

Best Rangers YouTube Video We Could Find: We're pretty sure we've used this before, but in honor of his recent induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame, check out this pass by Rangers defenseman Brian Leetch to set up a goal by forward Alex Kovalev in the 1994 Stanley Cup Final against the Canucks:

Notes:

-Marc-Andre Fleury (15-7-0, 2.54 GAA, .903 SV%) and Henrik Lundqvist (11-9-1, 2.68 GAA, .912 SV%) are your expected starters in net.

-For the Penguins, forward Matt Cooke is suspended. Forward Chris Kunitz ("lower body") and defenseman Jay McKee (finger) are on injured reserve.

-For the Rangers, forward Artem Anisimov ("undisclosed") is day-to-day. Defenseman Wade Redden (arm/shoulder) is out. Forward Brandon Dubinsky (hand) is out.

-Eric Godard is finding ways to contributed that don't involve his fists.

-Hopefully you don't have Matt Cooke on your fantasy team for the next two games.

-Cooke tends to get people mad.

-Sidney Crosby sure is racking up those PIMs (PG+).

-The Penguins haven't won a regular season game at Madison Square Garden since March 1, 2007.

-Our live blog begins at approximately 7 p.m. Please tune in.

Should be a good game tonight given all of the bad blood from the other night.  I still can't believe the Rangers dropped Colton Orr in favor of Brashear.

On an unrelated note, where is that commenter from a few weeks ago that was saying that Blysma should be taking notes from Tomlin in regards to not making excuses and playing through injuries?

Do you mean this genius?

community.post-gazette.com/.../oprik-out-two-weeks-11-12-09.aspx

I'm afraid that he's following in the footsteps of Collier and Smizik by saying something dumb that we just won't allow to be forgotten.  Ever.

Yep, that would be the genius Goat.  Thoughts on the Cooke suspension?

I pretty much echo what everyone else is saying about Cooke.  When it happened, I figured he'd be out for a couple of games. He might have been alright if he would have kept his elbow tucked.  I suppose now is the time to bring up Richards, but why bother.

I completely agree.
