Penguins forward Matt Cooke has been suspended two games without pay for a hit to the head of Rangers forward Artem Anisimov last night.
Cooke was given an interference penalty on the hit which took place in the third period of the Penguins' 8-3 rout of the Rangers.
The teams meet again tomorrow at Madison Square Garden.
EN Says: The NHL got this one right. Cooke left his feet and hit an opponent in the head. The intent and the results were clear. And Cooke's history played a role in this as well.
Additionally, the NHL defuses a potential powder keg Monday with the team's playing back to back games. We're sure it will still be intense. You just won't be as likely to see players like Sean Avery or Donald Brashear trying to extract some frontier justice.
That said, if Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin or any other star player lands that hit, they're playing on Monday.
