-Happy 44th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Jeff Norton. After spending part of the 2000-01 season with the Penguins, Norton was sent to the Sharks in a trade deadline deal that brought goaltender Johan Hedberg and defenseman Bobby Dollas to Pittsburgh.
Atlantic Division
-The NHL got it right. The league suspended Flyers forward Daniel Briere for a hit to the head of Avalanche defenseman Scott Hannan Monday.
What to feel disgusted? Briere's two-game supsension will cost him $67,352.52 in salary.
-The Islanders demoted defenseman Andrew MacDonald to Bridgeport of the AHL.
-Rangers captain Chris Drury is expected to return to the lineup tonight. He has missed five games due to a concussion.
-This is a few days old, but check out this beautiful breakaway goal Rangers defenseman Matt Gilroy against the Blue Jackets Monday:
Northeast Division
-Marc-Andre Bergeron scored two goals and led the Canadiens to a 5-3 win against the Blue Jackets. Montreal got two assists each from Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec while Carey Price (above) made 33 saves in the win. Antoine Vermette scored two goals for Columbus which lost its third consecutive game.

-Price and Columbus' Raffi Torres kept their eyes on the puck:
-Columbus goaltender and former Penguin Mathieu Garon had some trouble locating the puck:
-Senators goaltender Pascal Leclaire, already nursing a "lower-body" injury, suffered a broken cheekbone when he was hit by a puck on the team's bench during a game Monday. With Leclaire sidelined for approximately four weeks, the Senators recalled goaltender Mike Brodeur from Binghamton of the AHL.
-The Maple Leafs placed forward John Mitchell (knee) and goaltender Vesa Toskala (groin) on injured reserve and recalled forward Christian Hanson, a Pittsburgh native, and goaltender Joey MacDonald from their AHL affiliate, also in Toronto.
-No one seems to want to buy Maple Leafs jerseys these days.
-Former Blackhawks and Erie Otters goaltender Adam Munro signed a professional tryout agreement with the Toronto Marlies, the Maple Leafs' AHL affiliate.
-Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas (right) remains day-to-day with an "upper-body" injury.
-The Sabres are doing their first dads trip in over a decade.

Southeast Division
-Abe Pollin, the original owner of the Washington Capitals and eventually, the NBA's Bullets/Wizards franchise, passed away. He was 85. Pollin was an instrumental figure in the construction of the Capitals' home arenas, the Capital Centre/USAir Arena in Landover, Md. and the MCI/Verizon Center in downtown Washington. D.C., facilities which -- all joking aside -- Penguins fans are familiar with.
-The death of Pollin creates the opportunity for Capitals majority owner Ted Leonsis to purchase Pollin's share of the Wizards, Verizon Center and Baltimore-Washington Ticketmaster franchise. At the present, Leonsis' company, Lincoln Holdings LLC owns a 44 percent share of of the Wizards, Verizon Center and the franchise. Pollin's Washington Sports and Entertainment owns the remaining 56 percent.
-The Capitals demoted defenseman John Carlson and forward Andrew Gordon to Hershey of the AHL.
-George Richards of the Miami Herald wrote a scathing critique of the Panthers' new jersey and its designer, Rebook.
-Today's NHL owner with legal issues is Tampa Bay's Len Barrie. The former Penguins forward is being investigated by the Canadian Revenue Agency over a golf resort and housing development he owns in British Columbia.
-Former Thrashers and Panthers forward Kamil Piros has joined the TImra Red Eagles in Sweden.
Central Division
-Former Penguins forward Marian Hossa (right) is expected to make his debut with the Blackhawks tonight.
-"I think this was just more of an accident." - Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall on being injured on a knee-on-knee hit by Canadiens forward Georges Laraque.
-The Predators demoted defenseman Alexander Sulzer to Milwaukee of the AHL.
Northwest Division
-Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff pretty much demanded the No. 1 starting job for Finland in the Winter Olympics. He said if he's not the starter, he won't probably play.
-It's not just Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf who takes hits opponents with questionable checks. It's his younger brother Dane as well. But Dane distinguishes himself by hitting women:
-With 10 goals, Avalanche forward David Jones has found a consistent scoring touch.
-Avalanche captain Adam Foote is expected to return from a jaw injury tonight against the Predators. He has been sidelined for three games.
-Wild forward Chuck Kobasew is expected to return from an "upper-body" injury tonight. He has been sidelined for four games.
-The Canucks and Penguins are the only teams in the NHL without overtime losses this season.
Pacific Division
-The Ducks have found something with the line combination of Evgeny Artyukhin, Saku Koivu and Teemu Selanne.
-Just in time for the holidays, Ducks enforcer and Washington, Pa. native George Parros (right) has his own line of porn 'stache apparel.
-With defensemen Nicklas Grossman (groin) and Karlis Skrastin (undisclosed) dinged up, the Stars recalled defenseman Maxime Fortunas from Texas of the AHL and demoted forward Warren Peters.
-The Sharks might have the most dangerous first line in hockey with Dany Heatley, Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton.
Adams Division
-The AHL officially announced it will hold an outdoor game Feb. 20 between the Binghamton Senators and Syracuse Crunch at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.
