Bruins at Penguins - Third Period and Overtime - 11-14-09

THIRD PERIOD

20:00: Mark Recchi was awarded an assist on the Bruins' third goal. Fire Ray Shero.

18:12: Shawn Thornton swats a loose puck at the net from the left wing. Johnson knocks it dead with his left foot and covers to freeze play. Trainer Chris Stewarts comes off the bench briefly to check on Johnson. Johnson seems to be fine.

17:21: Lovejoy snaps off a wrister from the left point. Malkin is in front and deflects the puck wide. Fedotenko collects the rebound and tries to jam it in on the left side of the cage. Thomas holds it out.

17:11: Malkin is nabbed for tripping Chara behind the Boston net. Staal, Adams, Goligoski and Skoula take the ice.

16:21: Wideman cranks a slapper from the left point that gets deflected high.

15:54: Another slapper from the left point by Wideman is knocked dead in the slot. Dupuis turns and whips it down ice to kill time and get a change.

15:19: Chara controls the puck at the top of the slot and chops a slapper high. It hits someone in front. Staal is able to backhand it down ice.

15:11: Malkin's penalty is killed. Effective two minutes there for the Penguins.

14:28: "LET'S GO PENS! LET'S GO PENS!"

14:07: Crosby spins on the left wing and zips a cross ice pass to Malkin. Malkin's timing is off and puts the puck wide. He had an open net to shoot at too.

13:56: Lovejoy cracks a slapper from the left point. It hits a Bruin in front. The rebound slides across the crease. Crosby is there but can't fight off his defender to get a stick on it.

13:22: Rupp fires a slapper from the right wing. It gets deflected out of play.

12:58: Off a give-and-go with Guerin, Goligoski hustles up the right wing and cranks a slapper that gets deflected wide.

12:27: "Search and Destroy" by Iggy Pop and the Stooges is played:

11:14: Bergeron circles off the boards and from the left wing he snaps off a wrister. Johnson stops it and lunges out to cover the rebound with a few Bruins buzzing around.

11:00: Mark Eaton. Offensive dynamo. Fedotenko pushes a pass up to Crosby on the left wing. Crosby enters the offensive zone and dishes a pass to Eaton on the right wing. From the left faceoff circle, Eaton immediately rips a wrister that clunks off the blocker or stick of Thomas and into the net. Thomas gestures as if he's disgusted with himself. Eaton looked like Scott Niedermayer on that play. Crosby and Fedotenko get assists. The "Hey Song" is played. Penguins 4-3.

9:23: "LET'S GO PENS! LET'S GO PENS!"

9:12: Play is halted as Wheeler crashes into the net and dislodges it.

8:10: Play is halted as Bryon Bitz is on the ice in discomfort. Cooke clipped him in the face with a stick and drew some blood. That's four minutes. Fans boo, but the evidence is clear as day. Staal, Adams, McKee and Goligoski are on for the kill.

7:51: Staal golfs a loose puck down ice to kill time and change lines.

7:29: A blast by Chara from the left point is stopped by Johnson.

7:26: Oh geez this is tough. Crosby trips up Wheeler off the rebound of Chara's shot. The Penguins have a two minutes of a two-man advantage to kill now. Ugh. Boston coach Claude Julien calls a time out to organize his team. The Penguins will need a huge effort here to avoid giving up at least one goal. Adams, Eaton and McKee take the ice.

7:24: Off a faceoff win by Adams. Eaton cluknsk the puck off the boards and kills time.

6:46: The Bruins move around the puck with ease. Wideman gets it at the left point and hammers a slapper. Johnson fights it off and out of play.

6:35: Morris whiffs on a one timer from the right point. Staal picks up the puck, moves up ice and dump it into the Boston zone to kill time.

6:02: Johnson kicks out a one timer by Morris from the left point.

5:47: Chara hammers a slapper from the left point. Johnson makes the inital save but gives up a juicy rebound. Krejci is right there and lifts a shot over Johnson's blocker. That was only a matter of time. The Penguins will still have over 1:30 of power play time to kill for Cooke's penalty. Chara and Morris get assists. Bruins 4, Pengins 4.

4:35: Crosby gets loose shorthanded and is off on a breakaway, he moves in on net, slows down on his approach and goes to the backhand. Thomas is sprawled out but Crosby can't lift the shot high enough to get by his glove hand .

4:23: Off a faceoff win by Malkin, Dupuis whips a quick shot on net. Thomas fight it off.

4:10: Cooke's second penalty is killed. The Penguins were lucky to only give up one goal there.

2:38: Chara gets a pass on the left wing and pumps a shot on net. Johnson kicks it away.

2:29: Chrata just chucks the puck on net from the right point, gets a little bit luck and puts his team on top. From the right point, Chara controls the puck, just swats it on net and scores. It looks like a teammate might've deflected that in the slot. The puck sails over Johnson's glove hand and hits twine. Johnson looked like he didn't see the puck. Either that or the re-direction fooled him. Sturm gets credit for the goal. Chara and Recchi get assists. Bruins 5-4.

1:42: The Penguins nearly tie the game up. Rupp moves up the right wing and dishes the pass into the slot. Staal is able to deflect it on net. The puck squeezes through Thomas. He falls back to keep it out with some help of teammates. Nothing on the video seems to indicate it went over the goal line. After some confusion on the ice, Johnson is pulled for an extra attacker.

1:29: Thomas covers a loose puck in tight.

0:44: Begin swats the puck down ice from the neutral zone at the empty cage but it goes wide. The Penguins touch up for icing and get a faceoff in Boston's zone. Dan Bylsma calls a timeout to get his team organized.

0:00.4. Ohhhhhh geeeeeezzzzz!!!!!! Theitid this game up. Bergeron swats th epuck at the cage in the offensive zone. His stick breaks and Malkin rushes it up ice. He enters the zone with less than two seconds left and just as everyone says "SHOOOOTTTTT!" he dishes a pass to Guerin on the right wing. Guerin unleases a laser that beat Thomas on the far side and hits twine. Thomas didn't even react to that shot. That's how fast it was. This place goes insane. It's playoff loud. The press box is shaking. Malkin and Crosby get assists. WOW! The "Hey Song" is played. Penguins 5, Bruins 5.

0:00: End of period. Bruins 5, Penguins 5.

OVERTIME

5:00: This is unreal.

3:36: Unbelieveable. Un-flipping-believable! Skoula dumps the puck behind the Boston net. Thomas comes out to stop it for Wideman. Wideman hesitates to accept it. Staal swoops in and dishes it to Dupuis who punches it into the wide-open cage.  Dupuis pumps his fist. This place erupts. THomas makes a bee-line to his ramp. The "Hey Song" is played. Staal gets the only assist. Thomas should get one. Or Wideman. End of game. Penguins 6, Bruins 5.
