Orpik out two weeks - 11-12-09

Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said defenseman Brooks Orpik (above) will be out for two weeks due to a "lower-body" injury. Orpik was injured when Bruins defenseman Mark Stuart checked him into the boards being the Penguins net Tuesday night in Boston.

Orpik has appeared in 18 games this season having recorded six assists and is a minus-6.

In other injury news, Bylsma said injured forwards Tyler Kennedy (groin) and Evgeni Malkin (shoulder) remain day-to-day. While he did practice, Malkin said he will not play tonight. Kennedy did not practice.

Additionally, forward Maxime Talbot (shoulder) practiced today for the first time without a red non-contact jersey.

Defenseman Sergei Gonchar (wrist) continued to wear his non-contact jersey.

Devils:

-Martin Brodeur will start tonight in net for New Jersey as expected. Considering he is playing a team which has been shutout for two consecutive games, he has a legit chance to tie Terry Sawchuk's career record of 103 shutouts.

-Forward Brian Rolston will play tonight. He sat out last night's home game against the Ducks to rest an unspecified injury.

Lets hope they get the injury bug out of the system early in the season. Sigh....

Insert gratuitous Bob Smizik "Good News" comment here:

I personally blame Smizik for all of this.  Way to anger the hockey gods...

You don't see the Steelers making excuses for injuries.  Byslma needs to take some lessons from Mike Tomlin and get this team together because they looked horrible against Boston.  Everyone keeps talking about injuries, give me a break, the Steelers have 2 Super Bowls in 4 years with a ton of injuries.  DON'T MAKE EXCUSES, MAKE WINS LIKE THE CITY'S FOOTBALL TEAM!

AFPilot,

The team has dealt with significant injuries the past two seasons to Ryan Malone, Marc-Andre Fleury, Sidney Crosby, Maxime Talbot, Sergei Gonchar, Gary Roberts, Petr Sykora, Rob Scuderi, Ryan Whitney and others. Yet they still managed to get to the Stanley Cup Final each of those seasons. I would argue that they know how to cope with them.

AF,

You're whole comment is flawed because I'm not sure if you were aware, hockey is a little different than football in terms of season length, etc.

I don't think Bylsma needs to take lessons from anyone.  Not once has be blamed the injuries for poor performance, so I'm not really sure what you're referring to.

Also, if you've watched the past few games, the Pens played much better against Boston than in their last two games.

Also, the last time I checked the Pens are second in their division.  So I think they've been "making wins".

I guess I shouldn't expect much from a Stillers fan though.  Do everyone a favor and stick to the football blogs.

What would the Steelers' record be without their best offensive player and half of their starters on Defense?  Heck, what was their record without Polamalu?

Who's making excuses?  Certainly not Bylsma.

Why is it that we can't be both Steelers fans and Pens fans?  I forgot, the Steelers are great and nothing else matters.

Yes, JL58.  Winning the Stanley Cup is a rite of emasculation.  The real reason the team is struggling a bit is because it's really hard to recover from a double mastectomy.  Because see, touching the Cup makes you grow breasts.  And God knows that having breasts makes you unable to accomplish anything at all.

Now I understand the real reason for Stanley Cup hangovers ... that's a weight off my mind.

If I had breasts, I'd never leave the house.

Its been a long day.....

long night indeed, mostly because the NHL allows Lemaire to circumvent the spirit of the rules, by continuing to employ a system that suffocates the top flight talent, to the point of draining the excitement from the game as it's meant to be played today.
